Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I don't know if this needs a thread of it's own. It's a trailer for a trailer for Masters of the Universe.
I don't know if He-Man is the hero we need right now, but this trailer is something I need right now. Ahhhh the nostalgia.

That kind of makes me want to see a Masters of the Universe legacy sequel, rather than seeing a live action film about He-Man.

The responses to the news that Greta Gerwig's Narnia movies start with The Magicians Nephew makes me weep for everyone's English teachers.

"Hur, it happened first chronologically, so of course you should make that movie first" is a real failure to understand how storytelling works.

I really like The Magicians Nephew, but most of its power comes from the reader finally understanding a lot of Narnia's mysteries. Without that build up, a lot of it is just "OK, cool, someone threw a piece of a London street lamp to the ground in Narnia, whatever."

(Also, the reordering of the books to make Magicians Nephew #1 -- which is probably the real reason why it's being filmed first -- is due to a shady dude attaching himself to the Lewis estate and figuring out that he can get a piece of the pie if they now publish renumbered collections with the "definitive" order or whatever BS they're calling it.)
This was something I argued a lot with my middle school librarian over, she would always push reading series in chronological order. It didn't take long before I stopped listening to her.

Totally with you on that one. I also don't advocate people watching the prequel trilogy of Star Wars before the original trilogy. Just because it's in chronological order by content doesn't mean it's better storytelling.I find it's generally better to read/watch in chronological order by production since that's the order in which the author/director/creator developed things.

While I understand the logic, I have to say early on I learned I pretty much hate reading prequels, especially when the original set of books are set after catastrophes or other tragedies.

Exactly. Anything that can be automated will be.
Been saying that for at least a decade.

Shortly thereafter, I made an observation: I could name dozens of works of fiction that presumed humanity had reached a post-scarcity (as we understand it) level of civilization, but couldn’t come up with a single full story about how the transition occurred and how we weathered it. At most, I found works that mentioned it in passing- essentially glossing over any real details.
Just look at how good the AI slop videos are now -- there's no more extra fingers on display and unless it's a video of a known person, it's often hard to tell it's a fake person in those videos. Most of the time, the telltale signs are that the person is just too freaking hot and is too well-lit. Once those tells are taken care of, commercial actors are largely out of work for good.
Those tells won’t disappear. They’ll be used even more, because, as the marketing adage goes, sex sells.

Hell, that’s already happening. I’ve been exposed to a few different series of online ads from some scammy “tai chi workout” or “tai chi walking” companies that use AI actors. The first ones I saw, their skins looked too shiny or plasticy.

Now? Depending on the role, they look like normal people (the ones asking about tai chi) or martial arts heroes (the ones informing them about tai chi).

And tonight, I saw a Baerskin Tactical commercial on TV that had a disclaimer about it being AI generated.
I think they will have fewer doctors spread over even larger areas with AI taking the diagnostic work and more nurses for hands on. Already telemedicine is there…but AI will have its say before long and big impact.
I’m seeing some unrelated pushback on telemedicine that will probably slow it down a bit- some insurance companies have announced they’re not paying for telemedicine anymore. (Which seems stupid to me.🤷🏾‍♂️ )

But I’ve been watching the diagnostic AIs development curve. When I stay looking, they were about 60% as accurate as MDs. As I recall, that gap is currently under 10%. The most worrisome problem is that even the specialized diagnostic AIs can still hallucinate.

That's a shame. Their previous era of ads were clearly actual guys filming outdoors in Canada and they were a lot more charming than those kinds of tacticool ads have any right to be.
This is the ad in question;

I will point out that while there was a tiny text disclosure that the ad was made with AI when broadcast on TV, there is NO such qualifier tag on the YouTube version. Personally, I don’t know what’s AI, though I strongly suspect the bear & the woman with the eagle both are.
