Well, the thing about the wings is that you can use a bonus action to manifest them and put them away. They don't have to be out all the time.

I was actually a little bothered by the wings appearing and disappearing, but then I thought about how many celestials and fiends have the ability to alter self and appear as normal humanoid and it makes more sense.

It makes a little less sense for the draconic bloodline. For them the wings should be either permanent, or their entire draconic appearance should be able to come and go (I personally prefer the second option). Of course the sorcerer can always get the Alter Self spell, but that only lasts for an hour and requires concentration.

In addition, they don't have to be just angel wings or bat wings. They can be wings of metal, like Archangel from X-Men, or wings of energy like Tyrael from Diablo, They can be concentrated energy propulsion like Starfire from Teen Titans... really you can skin them as anything.

Re-skinning is certainly a thing you can do, but a default angel or demon wings is a good baseline.

Are you asking me as a DM or as a player? Obviously wings are better; as a DM and a game designer I think they are inappropriate.

at level 14? Why?

anyway, I picked "choose", because some people are going to pick up a FS and go "no wings? this isn't a favored soul", while others are not going to want wings.

I'd say that unless one option outshines the other by an enormous margin, like 70% or more, a choice is the best option.

Hate the wings. Would not use them in my game or play.

I'm not married to Divine Purity, but I do rather like the Favored Soul Sorcerer concept. So, it would be nice for it to remain something playable (i.e. no wings).

FWIW, I don't like the Dracanic Sorcerers getting wings, either. I'm just generally opposed to PCs with wings. I might allow aarakocra or winged elves in a specific setting, but I sure don't want to see it as a core option, especially for a class.

Since you're asking...

(1) Favored Souls already get plenty of good stuff at other levels. They don't need no-concentration flight. Most subclasses have some good features and some trash features; I like the current balance on Favored Soul better than the balance you get if you also give them wings.

(2) Steps on the dragon sorcerer's shtick, feels tired and unoriginal.

You did ask.

Fair enough. It's a matter of wildly different basic design philosophy.

For me, the fact that it does ta thing that Dragon Sorcerers also do is a feature, not a bug. I don't want there to be only one way to gain wings, nor do I think having both makes either less valuable or desirable.

But I totally get that others differ on that whole set of things.

I voted for Divine Purity because someone argued that the wings could easily be reflavored, and I'm against the concept of reflavoring things.

I also like how Divine Purity renders a dwarf racial feature meaningless, and I want to discourage dwarf sorcerers as a concept.
