OOC: Now back from GenCon & leveled up....

Outside Roy is busy unloading the wagon. While he's doing this if there's anyone around he'll use Thieves Cant to signal he's got info & wants a meeting.
After that he's all in favor of hitting the tavern & discussing how to split the loot over some ale.

[sblock=Roy] A passersby bumps into muttering something. You realize he basically says "gave you something" in cant. He presses a small folded parchment into your hand. You read it and it says, "You've been sent on a fool's errand.
See me at the Miner's Exchange. --Halia"[/sblock]

All: In the center of town stands a large, newly built roadhouse of fieldstone and rough-hewn timbers. The common room is filled with locals nursing mugs of ale or cider, all of them eyeing you with curiosity. Sildar hails you and says "I've paid for 6 rooms for the night, it's all they have. Two people will have to share. I'm going to retire early as after the days I've had I could use a long rest."
It's early autumn and the sky if just starting to darken, but the fireplace and lanterns keep the common room well lit.

What would you like to do?

Jax will smooze with the patrons, to find out what he will. After he's regrouped with his companions, of course.

Evelyn heads upstairs for a moment, staking out one of the rooms as her own and leaving her sword on the bed for the time being. She shakes off the worst of the road dust and returns downstairs a few moments, approaching the bar and attempting to acquire rum. Failing that, any of the local brews will do. With whatever libation in hand, she perches herself on a stool at one end of the room, where she can keep an eye on the others, the locals, and anyone else who enters the inn.

Jax: You find yourself in a conversation with a weaver and a blacksmith, complaining about business being slow lately. The weaver, a woman named Freda, perks your attention by mentioning the Redbrands. She complains that every business in town except the Miner's Exchange is suffering from the "protection" of the Redbrands. Her companion, Edgar the blacksmith, responds "Well, I don't think I'd want to mess with Halia either. She's supposed to know like really powerful people."

Salazar: One of the miners frequent the bar greets you. He noticed you are well armed ((and I assume a visible holy symbol)) and greets you. He offers some advice, "If ye are looking for a noble fight, There have been orc raids on the Triboar Trail. Ye can ask the townmaster about 'em."

Jauques is intrigued. He asks more about the Redbrand, trying to find out everything he can about them.

Inside, Jax is smiling. He is on the right track, and if these...companions of his are as capable as they seem to be, that glass staff is his.

Lupin:
You sketch out the town.
OOC: This is more detailed than your map will be but you all can get directions to these places easily.

Jax:
Trilena, the innkeeper's wife chimes in, "Thel Dendrar, a local woodcarver, stood up to the Redbrands a ten day ago when they came by his shop and leered at his wife. The ruffians murdered him. Several townsfolk saw it happen. The Redbrands grabbed his body, and now his wife, daughter, and son have gone missing too."
Norb, the blacksmith replies, "They all hang out at the Sleeping Giant the tavern down by Tresendar Manor."
Toblen Stonehill, the innkeeper, kinda tries to break up the conversation, "Now you folks might want to keep it down, I don't want any trouble from the Redbrands."

Evelyn: You finish your drink and one of the barmaids comes to refill you. She notes your weapon and says, "Are you an adventurer? Daran Edermath, the orchard keeper, used to fancy himself an adventurer in his youth."
