Udit rubbed his stubbled chin.

"Uh... what we could is I unlock the prison grate, all quiet-like. Then I can go back to the storage grate and make some noise, small illusions too. The undead didn't fall for them but the mercs might... Then the rest of you, uh, hit them hard"

Kurzon grinned almost boyishly at the others, "At least if we die we know it was a bad plan."

With a heave he pushes the grate up and moves into the room. [roll0]

Begin Round One

Udit crawled back and forth through the tunnel, meticulously unlocking the Prison grate, and returning to the Store-room grate, which he also unlocked. He concentrated and created a loud noise in the store-room. An eerie gasping noise came from the undead as if they had noticed the noise, but they did not yet move.

The most experienced (and presumably senior) guard in the Prison said "Here they come, be ready!" and they raised their crossbows toward the portcullis. The most inexperienced guard stepped forward and the veteran hissed, "Hold yer ground! Let those... things get them first."

From under the prison grate, Kurzon wedged himself into the tunnel and shoved with all his might, but his feet slipped on the algae that had grown on the stonework of the wet tunnel, and he clanged his shield on the wall. The grate moved, but did not open.

"Beware the grate!" called a guard.

GM: No surprise for anyone, they were on guard, after all. We'll start this fresh. Remember it is Darkness in the Store-room, Dim Light in the hall between them, and Bright light in the Prison. (Dim Light in the Tunnel under the Prison, Darkness under the Store-room, except right where Udit is with his candle.) From down in the tunnel, you only have Line-of-Sight to the spaces immediately around the grate. You've got to get up there ASAP!

"Not a good start," Kurzon calls upon his god and cast a protective ward on himself before he grunts as he pushes again.

OOC: Those are both actions. Do you want to do that in reverse order, so that you can get through the grate? (You can cast the spell next round, or change your mind, it's up to you.)

Legend
Kurzon

Fixing his footing and shoving with all his might, Kurzon swung open the Prison grate and hauled himself through. Nearly all of the guards let loose their crossbow quarrels at him as he sung his shield in front of himself and added a quick prayer to bolster his defences.

But as he got through the grate, he found that some of the damage had already been done. Before he'd even reached his feet and gotten his shield up, he'd been shot twice. Once in the shoulder, and the other in his shield-arm. His armour (and his will) was so thick, though, that the quarrels caused only moderate discomfort. A third quarrel banged into his shield as he put it before him, and he rushed toward the closest guard, driving him back.

The other mercenaries quickly began to reload their crossbows, while the veteran waited for the proper moment to strike.

GM: That should allow most of the others to get up safely!

Torbin climbs through right behind Kurzon. He does his best to target the weakest link of the guards and casts his mark upon the man right before sending a pair of arrows at him.
