How to Fish for Knucklehead Trout

I seem to recall that Streams of Silver opens with a scene where Regis the halfling is fishing for knucklehead trout with a line and rod.
It's actually The Crystal Shard, and part of it is quoted directly in the PHB on p. 26 (the section on Halflings): "Regis [...] locked his fingers behind his head and leaned back against the mossy blanket of the tree trunk. [...] The crooked stick that served as his fishing pole rose up above him, clenched between two of his furry toes, and hung out over the quiet lake, mirrored perfectly in the glassy surface of Maer Dualdon."

Have now looked it up. The LotCS Campaign Guide has a section entitled “Fishing the Lake” on page 11. It states that knucklehead trout can reach up to five feet long.

It implies that the larger fish are caught by line (e.g. “... it can be difficult to land a large trout on a small craft.”)

The section finishes with the following sentence: “Most small boats stay close to shore, using lines and nets to catch smaller fish.”

So...what you’re saying is...nobody is going to be noodling for knuckleheads.

Seriously, though, this makes me want to design Knucklehead Jaws adventure.

You’re going to need a bigger skiff!

If you do, though, there’s lots of RW inspiration to be had by watching episodes of River Monsters, especially those featuring some of our planet’s giant catfish species. As I recall, there’s catfish 7-10’ in length and several hundred pounds to be found in the Amazon, the Mekong, the larger lakes of eastern Europe, and the Indian subcontinent- especially the Kali River. Records of fatal predatory attacks on humans and other large mammals- or at least, scavenged large body parts- have been verified in a few species, and suspected in the cases of people who dissapeared on those waters.
