D&D 5E "Big Summer Adventure" Drow related? Announcement imminent?

That's what fits the schedule. We have been told the next book is a "big summer adventure". And we have a "hot Drizzt summer" event. It would seem very odd marketing to have the Drow book at Christmas time!

I agree that it's unlikely that the will "do the Underdark" again in an adventure (although Icewind Dale is in both SKT and RotFM). I think it more likely the adventure will visit the new surface drow cities, briefly revisit Menzoberranzan, then finish up in the Demonweb pits. I also think this will be a level 11-20 adventure.
High level adventure?
Will never happen
Even if they do a Demonweb Pits adventure you'll be fighting Lolth at level 13 or 14

I'm starting to come around on the idea of it being a drow adventure, solely because it appears a bunch of resources have been made to new art, which would be weird without a book.

That said, no way it's an adventure compilation like you suggest. If there is a drow book, it will be the summer adventure. Probably have Lolth as the big bad, but we've seen high CR baddies for adventures that don't go to 20th level, so I doubt this will either.

Can't imagine they'll do drow for the RPG

First, they did them already with OUT OF THE ABYSS
Second, drow are problematic because entirely evil races are problematic, and dark skinned ones are racist

Even if they continue to show drow as light gray (like they have since the start of 5th Ed) and have equal numbers of good drow, every single article and preview regarding a drow focused adventure will focus on the previous racism, creating bad press
They'll have to spend as much time talking about how they've fixed drow and changed them as they would the adventure. Selling the changes and not the story

The recent drow articles and Drizzt videos are almost certainly related to DARK ALLIANCE. Which has Drizzt as a main character
That's the main reason Paul is theorizing this, because they are already doing that press work actively right now.

This all also probably ties into the MtG Forgotten Realms card set. Official card previews start on June 29th, the set is available digitally on July 8th, pre-release week start July 16th, and worldwide release is July 23rd. You know there is no way they would make this set without a Drizz't card or a Lolth card, maybe a legendary land card for Menzobarranzan.

They ready previewed the Lolth Planeswalker and the Legendary Elf Ranger Drizzt cards.

I wasn't suggesting that. "big summer adventure" suggests a single story, not a compilation.

I agree with you about the new art, I don't think they would have commissioned it if there wasn't a book to put it in. There is art for the surface Drow cities too.
The team that made the art.in question is the Franchise studio: that means this art was made for use with media partners in TV, movies, and literature.

Yeah I wasn't sure what you were suggesting, my bad...

Anyway, if it is a very Drow-focused adventure, and Lolth is the primary enemy, I imagine the ending of the book would not reach level 20. I believe the only book that actually takes you to level 20 is Dungeon of the Mad Mage. I could very much see an "Avatar of Lolth" statted up as an enemy, much like the Frostmaiden in Icewind Dale.

Q1 is a Level 10-14 module, and the levels from older Editions translate to 5E pretty well, so a Level 10-15 Asventure would make sense.

Hiya.
It's in the title. There seems to be an awful lot of Drow-related chatter all of a sudden. We have been told there is a "big summer adventure" but no hint as to what it is about. D&D Live is a bit late to announce a "summer" title (although it could be August).

Maybe it actually features Drizzt and co, and ties into the Dark Alliance video game?
OMG I really hope not!

WotC: "Hey! Lets do drow stuff! We've been doing drow stuff since before 1988, then The Crystal Shard. That sold like hotcakes! We've only put out a metric fun-ton of stuff about drow for the last 42+ years, how can we loose?"

Also WoC: "Oh! And lets make SURE to focus on Drizz't because EVERYONE loves that character! He's the one from 1988 for those that don't know. Man, I'm sure we have AT LEAST another 25 years of Drow and Drizz't before people get the tar and feathers".

Henry Ford: "Sure, you can have any colour Model T you want! As long as it's black..."
WotC: "Sure, you can have any kind of Adventure you want! As long as it's Drow..."

Yup. I am STILL just as thrilled about 5e books as I have been since December 10th 2014.
