Not so much here on EN World, but over on Reddit, things can get pretty wild. A thread will go from:
"I made a fun change to the rations in my game, and thought I'd share. Since the player characters all live on the coast, the rations are all smoked fish, hardtack, and dried seaweed! I'm handwaving things a bit, assuming that these foodstuffs have the same shelf life and nutrition as the "dried nuts and fruits" that the PHB describes, and they still weigh 2 pounds. Has anyone else customized the rations to fit their campaign setting?"
to
"Rations are totally broken. The weight they give is stupid--two pounds per day?! That's absurd, it makes no sense, and completely breaks my immersion. Also, bounded accuracy or something? I know lots of jargon. The whole concept of needing to eat food is dumb anyway, nobody tracks that stuff, and why do you hate your players? Anyway if you really need that much detail, you're just storytelling and you shouldn't be playing D&D."
in less than an hour, and then I have to log off and go lay down. Seriously, why do people feel the need to take a steaming dump all over someone else's stuff?
