Adventure Time TTRPG Drops "Yes And" System, Switches To 5E

Changed made based on feedback from fans.

When the Adventure Time roleplaying game was announced back in June, it was going to be using a brand new RPG system called the "Yes And" system, which involved dice which had Yes and No on one die, and things like And or But on the other.

However, publisher Cryptozoic Entertainment has recently indicated that, following fan feedback, the upcoming Kickstarter will now be powered by 5E instead. The update was included last week as part of the FAQ in its current Adventure Time card game Kickstarter.

Has Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game changed since you announced it a few months ago?

Yes, we made the decision to make it a 5e experience, based on feedback from fans. That doesn’t mean the game shown at Gen Con earlier this year won’t be released too, but the main offering in the upcoming Kickstarter will be the 5e RPG.

No one is raising the spectre of 4E here except for you. If you haven't ever checked out a game where there's mechanical support for roleplay, I don't think 4E is even it. Watch the Critical Role Monsterhearts video linked above.

Though there were a fair amount of Monsterhearts/PBtA fans who said CR was playing it wrong at the time.

We should remember other things:

- Sourcebooks about crunch aren't too easy to sell when it is no so popular system.

- If it is about a famous franchise, then the players who wanted lore/background can search fandom wikis.

Searching fan wikis is often unsatisfying for a certain generation of fan. I own numerous fictional encyclopedias and history books for a reason.

Reading raw, unfiltered and poorly-presented facts is a far less pleasurable experience for me.

I wasn't part of that discussion because I've never had the chance to play either but...

I hate that as gamers, instead of being impressed that someone with the reach that CR has is even introducing MH/PBTA to people who've never heard of it, we're more concerned with if someone is playing it 'right'. To me, that's exactly what holds small games back.

And before anyone says 'not all MH fans...', yes. Online amplifies all opinions.

I wouldn't be too suprised if after the end of the licence of Star Trek rpg by Mophidius Hasbro wanted it knowing maybe Disney would rather to publish their own Star Wars rpg.
