This isn't really one single aesthetic. It ranges from the saccharine to the grimdark. Of the many interpretations of Midsummer Nights Dream, the best one I've seen was the one the BBC did with the Doctor Who team in the style of Doctor Who.
And, of course, Forbidden Planet is The Tempest in space.
