I've often wondered if Susan is a Timelord, like her 'grandfather', or just some waif he took in and mentored. I watched series 1 again, finishing about 6 months back, and don't recall it ever being mentioned before she stayed behind with her Dalek fighting boyfriend.

I would have to find the original quotes, but I am pretty sure I read they only used grandfather and granddaughter in the show because in the 1960's it was unseemly for a young woman to be traveling with an older man she was not related to. So originally they were not supposed to be related at all. Susan could still be another Time Lord, or at least Gallifreyan, but not his relative?

Well that was a nonsensical mess.

Also, regenerating into the exact image of your ex-girlfriend is … weird.

Most people think that is just a "bait and switch", as the end credits only said "introducing Billie Piper", not "introducing Billie Piper as the Doctor". I think it is more of a placeholder until they figure out if Gatwa is coming back or not. We could easily get a Christmas Special with Billie and at the end another regeneration with either Gatwa coming back or the next actor who will be the Doctor.

Well Gatwa is officially done, so it sure looks like it'll be Piper in any upcoming specials.

On the Belinda and child front, I thought it was clear that she always had that child, right from the beginning, but what we saw throughout the series/season was a mis-remembered version of what happened, with her need to get back to her child replaced with wanting to get back to her parents. The intense need to get back to her parents always seemed a little odd, given how independent a person she was, but now we know that the importance was because of having a very young child to get back to.
No, from what I've read that was a retcon created after they reshot The Reality War to account for Gatwa leaving. They needed a reason for The Doctor to regenerate so they scraped together the Poppy plot. It's part of why the episode's such a nonsensical mess.

Ruby was supposed to still be the Companion in the 2nd season, which is why Belinda didn't get an actual story arc and then got shoved in a box for most of The Reality War before being rewritten as a doting single mother.

Susan is Galifreyan and she is related to the Doctor, but she might not be a Timelord (the subject has never been officially addressed). Now how the Doctor and Susan are related is a point of debate
  • she might be an actual granddaughter (the rest of the Doctors family are/were deceased)
  • she might be adopted
  • she might be a younger generation of the Doctors 'House'
  • she might be granddaughter of The Other

I think its more them waiting to see what the BBC bosses can negotiate with Disney and if they approve another season. Piper is definately a placeholder - but it looks more like RTD getting media/fan interest high as a negotiating tactic

I don't think we're going to get any specials this year due to how long it may take to get the rest of casting, a story and a deal in place.

Also Gatwa is the second doctor not to face the Daleks, the first being the Eighth Doctor at least on screen.

But seriously, it's hilarious how The Doctor never even tried looking for Rogue.

Also, don't forget the line about the border between Norway and Sweden have an expansion. Bad Wolf Bay was in Norway.
