    Spoilers Civil War Movie

Saw the new movie "Civil War" (no not the Avengers movie or a movie about the OG American civil war) In a time when movie trailers often spoil the best parts, honestly I think the trailers undercut this movie. At its core, its a movie about war journalists documenting the finale of a new...

What makes an TTRPG a "Narrative Game" (Daggerheart Discussion)

In the current debates in the daggerheart forums, there is the talk that Daggerheart is a "narrative game". This claim is made primarily as an opposition to 5e, which is "not a narrative game". But what exactly is a narrative game? I thought about it, and here's what I've come up with. We can...

D&D 5E A Campaign "Houserule" Idea - Armor Proficiency is based on the armor "donner" not wearer.

This is just an idea I was spitballing in my head for a specific campaign idea (more around noble houses and such). This wouldn't be a general change just a campaign one. Right now armor proficiency is for the wearer, and implies being able to move in the armor "properly" and use it in combat...

D&D (2024) Does Primal Knowledge affect Passive Perception?

With primal knowledge, a barb can use strength for perception checks. Does that mean their passive perception would also change to use strength? And then take it 1 step further. A 20th level barb with Indomitable Might and 26 strength would have a minimum perception check of 26...but a passive...

D&D 5E Is Grapple forced movement supposed to care about carrying capacity?

I saw someone mentions this recently and honestly I had never thought about it. The Grapple rules state that once you grapple a creature, on your turn you can move half your speed and move that creature with you. However, before we perform that movement, do we need to consider carrying...

    D&D (2024) Playtest 8 Spell Discussion

This is the place to discuss the new spells and spell changes in the UA 8 playtest packet.

D&D 5E A Legendary Resistance Alternative: Delay the condition

Legendary Resistance has a number of issues. On the one hand, against a single control caster its very frustrating, as they can spend the entire fight just trying to land one good spell. On the other, a caster focused group can blow through the LRs and still apply conditions anyway. There are a...

    D&D 5E Attack with 2 damage types - 2 concentration saves?

Something I noticed in BG3 which I have never even concieved of doing. In BG3 when you deal 2 different damage types with your attack (say 5 piercing and 2 fire as an example), that triggers 2 concentration saves. Is that how people normally do it, or do you combine the damage and do a single save?

D&D 5E What are the "True Issues" with 5e?

As always, most things are in the eyes of the beholder. As it is with 5e; most of us have our preferences and problems with the edition based on our own desires. But are there certain things we can boil down to say "as a group, we can agree that this is a true issue with the edition". Things in...

D&D (2024) Baldur's Gate 3: List of Mechanical Differences from 5e (need assistance to fill the list)

There are a few threads going around discussing the various mechanical changes BG3 has made, and whether some of those would be good changes for the core game. To help with that, this thread will catalog the various differences. I am happy to collect them into a list in the OP. Please keep this...

Level Up (A5E) My Level Up Campaign has Ended! Level Up Feedback

After 1 year and 7 months (real time), my campaign has ended in triumph! The party has been stranded with a community of refugees in a fey world for 445 days (in game time), but managed to contact an ancient civilization (Taranya) to help them out. Tarayna opened a portal (after a big ritual...

D&D (2024) The Great Nerf to High Level Martials: The New Grapple Rules

Just had the finale of my campaign in which the party got to enjoy a 20th level fighter. And as I had suspected, the grapples came out. The party was fighting a fey master who had sunk into the ground to absorb the power of the land. Well the fighter ripped him out of the ground with the first...

    The Witcher Season 3 (Spoilers)

So now that the Witcher has completed season 3, what do people think? (HEAVY SPOILERS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED) I will ignore the Henry Cavill controversy, and just take the season on its merits. For the most part I enjoyed it. I liked the family dynamic with Geralt, Ciri, and Yenniver. The...

D&D 5E My Luchador "Mighty Mask" - Char Build assistance requested.

So I've had a fun concept for a new 6th level character. A masked wrestler know as "Mighty Mask". The idea is simple, do lots of grapple and wrestling, and make it look good. This is what I have so far: Race: Halfing (the idea of a small character that goes large is just too funny so even...

    D&D (2024) A new idea for Topple

I think Topple is a bit much at the moment, not for its effect per say (although proning targets all the time can get very powerful) but also just the idea of save after save after save. So here is a simplier version of Topple that will hopefully still be solidly powerful but much less work in...

    D&D (2024) Playtest 6: Stealth Rules

So stealth felt worthy of its own thread. The latest of the stealth rules seems to be getting slightly better, but there are still some oddities. Technically see invisibility now detects all hiding creatures (barring any changes to the spell). The rules do suggest that the Study Action is now...

    D&D (2024) Playtest 6: Spells

So here is the thread to talk spells. After the big discussion about Power Word Kill here: https://www.enworld.org/threads/power-word-kill-houserule-any-100-hp-within-1-minute.697945/ I was curious to see what they came up with. So now its an automatic 12d12 psychic damage (avg 78) if they are...

D&D (2024) Mods: Can we do some organization on Playtest Packet 6?

So the new packet is out, and so of course everyone is excited to spam threads about the subject. But there is a lot of content, and I'm afraid we are going to get like 20 threads on the topic. Can we just make 1 thread for each class, a thread for spells, etc, and just get things nice and...

D&D General Worldbuilding: What do the mechanics of spellcasting tell us of flavor?

Note: This is meant to be a fun thread, I certainly don't expect all dms to consider spells this way, and its certainly not meant to be a thread that declares "if your not considering spells this way your wrong". Its just light-hearted and fun. If we imagine that the mechanics of spellcasting...

D&D (2024) Are Bishops "Clerics" or "Priests"

Its a subtle thing noted in the one dnd document on clerics, but in the document it mentions how rare clerics are supposed to be. They are a unique exception in the world, a rare thing. So when you think of the typical holy man in a village, or religious leader in a big city (like bishop) does...
