    AD&D 1st Edition Books

Those books all came out initially with the orange spine. It was the earlier books (except for the Fiend Folio) that got the redone covers, in order to give them the orange spine. I figure it's because they wanted them all to be easily recognizable on bookstore shelves.

Correct. If power corrupts, then Iluvatar, Middle Earth's supreme being, would be more corrupt than Morgoth and Sauron put together.

Seeking advice on the Cloistered Cleric

How about just having the cloistered cleric getting three of the deity's domains? In other words, replacing the Knowledge domain with another domain.

What's the current, in print, status of Castle Zagyg??

I'd love a PDF too. Given that the license has been withdrawn, I'm not sure if even this would be available.

World of Greyhawk Folio - 30 years on

In terms of utility, I prefer hexes all the way. As the Darlene map shows, aesthetics need not be sacrificed for this utility.

    Pathfinder 1E Freeport Pathfinder Companion

Check out the free hand fighter archetype in the Advanced Player's Guide. It's designed for fighting with a one-handed weapon while the other hand is free. It gains a dodge bonus to AC while wearing light armour. It also gets bonuses on using various combat maneuvers. Check it out here (scroll...

    Eldritch Knights and prepared spellcasters

Good question. This is the first time I've heard this point come up for Pathfinder. (Then again, I don't follow many threads on the Paizo boards too frequently.) It might be that they're not aware of the issue. Have you brought this up on the Paizo boards?

    Eldritch Knights and prepared spellcasters

I'm not disagreeing with your interpretation. All I did was make an offhand comment about the actual wording of the parenthetical condition. I didn't mean it as a point of discussion. The main point I had wanted to make was that the wording was poor. Also, that I don't like the rule.

    Eldritch Knights and prepared spellcasters

The if in question is making the statement conditional on spontaneous casters, not the benefits of gaining a spellcasting level. As you quoted, "spells known (if he is a spontaneous spellcaster)".

    Eldritch Knights and prepared spellcasters

Strictly speaking, gaining spells known if one is a spontaneous caster says nothing about prepared casters. You're interpreting it as if it said only if instead of just if. In any case, the wording is poor. This issue came up about prestige classes in general in 3.5. I've always given wizards...

    Wanted: Female point of veiw

Do you really see no difference between asking two specific women what they think about something, and asking a generic online crowd to come up with an overgeneralization about women?

    Wanted: Female point of veiw

I, too, am in agreement with pawsplay. If you've heard that Linda and Maggie have switched to Pathfinder, why not ask Linda and Maggie?

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder + Psionics

I would prefer that, actually. What makes it complex is not merely how it's worded, it's a matter of how much extra rules (beyond core) that are needed, and how they all interact. If psionic resistance is just the same as spell resistance (same goes for any other game concept), then you're...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder + Psionics

If psionic resistance functions just like spell resistance, then there is no need to have psionic resistance. It's just needless complexity. Just as we don't need arcane resistance and divine resistance, we don't need psionic resistance. Psions just need to access the magic differently with...

    An Older Experience System

First of all, this isn't the way I play, so I can't speak to how it works out in practice. It's just the context in which, as far as I know, these old XP systems were used. But why, you ask, would someone want to do that in the first place? Some people may want to build strongholds for the same...

    An Older Experience System

A good point. The way lots of us play now, this could be a problem. But, unless I'm mistaken, the larger campaign setting was mostly in the background in these types of systems. At least, that's the impression I get from reading older rulebooks. Let's say the adventure begins and ends at the...

My lady puts on her GM's hat...

In my experience, the best thing for a new GM is having players who are understanding. It sounds like you're supportive, and if the rest of the group is the same, then that's covered.

    An Older Experience System

Good questions. As I said, I haven't used this system myself yet, so I haven't fully thought it through. I don't know what Arneson did, but I think it could work if the DM and players agree on the details for a particular campaign. The decisions on what sorts of expenditures result in XP can...
