While I know it's not quite as extreme as 20 levels, I do know of someone in LG in CoU who has decided to take enough classes to fix his level at a certain point due to muti-classing penalty. He doesn't like LG adventures past a certain APL (average party level).

I suppose this implies at least 5 classes.

Interesting. Not having the books for a ll of those classes, what are the stats we're looking at? I've heard of the 20 level / 20 class before, but never yet seen the beast.

Oh, I hadn't made the statistics for the character yet. I was just trying to prove that, background wise, it was possible. I might make the statistics for him one day when I'm bored

There was someone a long while ago trying something like this, with all classes that added +1d6 sneak attack at 1st level. I think he managed to work up to like +16d6 sneak attack... and BAB +5.

Watch out for his touch attacks!

As DM I'd frown on this and probably ban it. A primary issue, as a previous poster said, is the bookkeeping issue -- occasionally it's necessary to verify whether a character's statistics/powers have been computed correctly, and this kind of mess makes any kind of accounting really atrocious.

If I saw a player doing this I'd be suspicious that he was cooking the numbers under the hood, knowing no one would have the energy to verify what his totals were.

Actually, one of my friends has been running a similar character in Living Greyhawk. I believe he's a Rogue/Sorcerer/Cleric/Fighter/Ranger/Barbarian/Bard at 7th level. With the upcoming concversion to 3.5, he's changing to a Bard 7, as that suits his concept as played almost as well, and will be far more effective.

SNIP Background of Doamir

Like someone else asked... do you have stats for this guy, or did you just do this off the top of your head? I would SO love to see what this guy's numbers would actually look like...

IMHO "abuse" does not fit well, since I would call something "abuse", if the player gained an unfair advantage. But...
- this is unlikely, as others pointed out
- Unless the character becomes an Uber-character, it is not problem for the other players if one character uses the rules to get an advantage.

The main question is: Is it still fun for the others players if they travel with such a character? And in this instance it may be that the multiclassing character pisses of the others, because he cannot do anything right, and other's characters players die because of the stupid mulitclassing. In that case I would say it is no good to build such a character.
If, however, all are having fun with such a special character in the group and they still can manage the challenges, then everything is fine.

I just wonder, if the player has as much fun with his character as he would have with a "normal" one. If this is also yes, cool.

Doamir the 1st level Commoner/1st level Warrior/1st level Thug/1st level Expert/1st level Aristocrat/1st level Adept/1st level Sorcerer/1st level Wizard/1st level Fighter/1st level Rogue/1st level ex-Bard/1st level ex-Barberian/1st level Shaman/1st level Witch/1st level ex-Druid/1st level Ranger/1st level Monk/1st level Cleric/1st level Paladin/1st level Samurai. CR 20.

Next Doamir plans to train himself mentally in order to achieve levels in Psion and Psychic Warrior and become a Jedi.

Doesn't the first level of an NPC class not count for CR? So your 20th level character would have a lower CR. Same character level though.
