Action Surge now specifically notes that it can't be a Magic Action.
Okay, good. Hadn't seen that info about Action Surge yet.
Casting from a Wand or Scroll is also a Magic Action now (not a Use Item - now called Utilize) so, no.
That doesn't counter my example. Quicken fireball = Bonus Action, Wand of Fireballs = Action (Magic).

Even if the Bonus Action spell is considered a Magic action, that's not the rule. It's only one spell slot expended per turn. So, as of now, it sounds like Magic Item + Quickened Spell in one round is viable.

If the wand says to cast "fireball", which has a level, then it won't work.

But I'm running off memory, so..
Yeah, in 2014 that is the way it's worded. I don't think that would change for 2024, so there's some restriction for Quicken there (as I hoped).

But there are plenty of other magic items that work without indicating the user is casting a spell. Necklace of Fireballs, for example.

Granted, that's a consumable item, but given we're getting new magic item crafting rules, I'd be making/commissioning those all the time.

And there might be other permanent items that give a powerful effect without using the term "cast", but that was the first example I could think of.

Again, the 2024 DMG may add more clarity.

Sure, but they'd work just fine with the 2014 rules too, so no real change there.
