D&D (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

Sure, but they'd work just fine with the 2014 rules too, so no real change there.
True, but they did add in the extra clause to the 2024 Quickened Spell description because they were apparently trying to clarify/prevent some shenanigans. So it's still a bit of an open question of how far they went.

Sure, but I think the intention was to prevent new shenanigans arising from the wording of the revised spells-per-turn rule rather than to shut down any existing ones.

Okay, good. Hadn't seen that info about Action Surge yet.

That doesn't counter my example. Quicken fireball = Bonus Action, Wand of Fireballs = Action (Magic).

Even if the Bonus Action spell is considered a Magic action, that's not the rule. It's only one spell slot expended per turn. So, as of now, it sounds like Magic Item + Quickened Spell in one round is viable.
If the wand says to cast "fireball", which has a level, then it won't work.

But I'm running off memory, so..

So, with this ruling, and not knowing exactly what Sorcerer says, you could cast a Bonus action spell, then use your action to activate a Wand of Fireballs, because it does not cost a spell slot to use the wand.

Yes. But Quicken also specifically says no other leveled spell (I believe).

You could misty step and wand of fireballs. Or cast darkness as a shadow monk and divine favor.

But not quicken fireball + wand of fireball.

Suggestion stood out to me as a kinda sneaky upgrade to spell that really didn't need it. It's in combat usefulness is about the same but outside of combat it's a powerhouse.
  • no concentration
  • 8 hr duration
  • any 25 word course of action that sounds achievable as long as they don't directly cause HP damage to themselves or an ally.

This would make any NPC with an ounce of authority or control constantly paranoid.

That was the best part of it. It wasn't up to the PC getting reincarnated. You were in a bad spot and took a crazy gamble, dealing with the consequences. That's D&D to me.
I loved the old Reincarnate spell too! Over the years it has become more and more bland. It isn't suppose to be Resurrection with a Phb species switch. Like you said, a big gamble, and if you did come back as an eagle or a bugbear, it was fun.
