So, with this ruling, and not knowing exactly what Sorcerer says, you could cast a Bonus action spell, then use your action to activate a Wand of Fireballs, because it does not cost a spell slot to use the wand.

That Quicken change seems strange, when you already have limits in place for multiple levelled spells (well, technically, spell-slot using spells, so Magic Initiate free casts and racial spells and class feature spells can get around that limit, which I thought was an intended feature, and they're mostly just lv1 spells anyway).

It just seems strange to now need to explain to people 'you cannot fireball and quicken firebolt, but you can quicken fireball and regular action firebolt just fine'.

You know what they didn't nerf? Guidance. It's the same exact thing... only you need to define what skill it applies to this time, which just adds to the spam, because now instead of people going GUIDANCE they're going GUIDANCE PERSUASION followed by I MEAN GUIDANCE DECEPTION

So, anyway, I'll keep banning that.
I think I'll houserule it to something like this: range 30', reaction triggered by a failed ability check, can't be used again for 1 minute.

Suggestion stood out to me as a kinda sneaky upgrade
omg thanks for pointing this one out. They really buffed the hell out of it. Instead of 'the suggestion must sound reasonable' it is just a straight 'suggestion must sound achievable and not deal damage to the target or its allies'.

Like, what is damage? Is a king giving you their throne damage? Does a LG person think his fellow townspeople are his allies or is poisoning the town well perfectly fine? Would being ordered to walk out of an encounter be damaging to their reputation, and thus they won't do it?

There was nothing wrong with the 'reasonable' requirement, and the spell was still plenty strong, especially for a lv2 spell.

So what happened to hypnotic pattern, polymorph and banishment?

I remember those spells being the best thing you could do a lot of the time. Are they still bonkers?

At least I know polymorph doesnt just randomly give you 180 HP anymore.

Hypno is the same (and it's a powerful control effect if you get everyone, but anyone can shake the affected people out of their stupor or drop a minor damage AoE on their allies to wake them up, so I always viewed it as just stealing a few actions).

Polymorph is basically the same because while it now gives you temphp instead of real health, you gain just as many temphp as the new beast form has hitpoints, so whatever. It's still the Wizard version of healing an ally.

Okay, so if you have cast a level 1 spell or higher, you can't quicken, and if you quicken, you can't cast a level 1 spell or higher.

I may homebrew that for my personal games (to allow non-spell slot spells at least), just because I think sorcerer is a bit weak in general anyways, but it seems like a reasonable and easily understood rule.

Sorcerer has been voted most powerful class by a few. And quicken firebolt is still well worth a SP.

Obviously no one has experience yet, but still, I don't think it's weak anymore.
