D&D 5E 20th level Sorcerer vs the world

The thing that always seemed weird to me about games that involve a hefty dose of magic countermeasures is that such games usually become even more focused gameplay wise on the players of spellcasting PCs because the game becomes about measures and countermeasures, basically problem solving your way around magical countermeasures by proper utilization of your own magic.

I think the countermeasuring put in place by DM to avoid spellcaster to steal the spotlight leads to... more preparations and calculations by the group, with the spellcasters at the center stage even more. I actually prefer to leave them be (even if I must say it's depressing to have a BBEG hampered greatly when I imagined an epic fight for the player and it ends with "I planeshift him away" on round 1.

The ubiquitous quadratic wizard, linear fighter problem was greatly reduced in 5e, but the problem stays somewhat as very few people seem to actually play high level, maybe especially during playtest. Iconic high level abilities can only be toned down that much before a setting like Forgotten Realms starts to break.
Yeah. I'm running a homebrew setting, and I have a party of 14th-level (and another of 8th) and things haven't gotten out of hand, yet (and I'm aware that "yet" is doing a lot of work, here).

I believe that before the wizard's actions can continue, you need to explain how the nightmare came to be on the material plane. Basically, was the effect that brought it here instaneous (in which case the nightmare itself cannot be dispelled) or did the effect have a duration (in which cast the nightmare itself can be dispelled). You stated it was being controlled by Planar Binding (which can be dispelled, regardless) but we need to know if you are falling or riding an unwilling mount.
Exactly. And we need a DM to tell us that, obviously, considering that he doesn't want to go with averages apparently.

I am assuming, for the sake of getting this nonsense moving again, that the sorc somehow found a Nightmare hanging out in a dungeon somewhere. He wandered around until random encounter tables came up with what he wanted, I guess.

Sorc is now sitting on a pissed-off flying demon horse. GO.

Aren't we using average? "This creature is attacking you, we will defeat you" Persuation check.
+15 Persuation + Magical Guidance.

Is it possible to do a deception check within the time of a six seconds round as an action? Plus we need the DM to establish DC (provided the unwilling planar bound mount doesn't just etheral jaunt away.
