[3.5] Champions of Bloodscale Clan

Zaryz leaves the others behind for the moment, heading down the corridor through which the darkmantle fled. For the first 60 or so feet, the passage runs due west and is 20 feet wide. Zaryz passes strange doors on his left and right about every 20 feet.

Each door is closed. The doors are made of the same metal as the walls, floors, and ceilings. There is no visible apparatus to open the doors. There aren't even any hinges visible. Each door appears set so that slides open into the wall. Next to each door, about 3 or so feet up on the wall, is a rectangle marked with a thin slot. It is wider than a dagger's blade, but thinner.

After the first 60 or so feet, the corridor turns sharply to the north and narrows to a 10 foot width. Zaryz sees two more doors on the western wall. At the limits of his darkvision on the eastern wall, he espies an open doorway.

Zaryz can't make sense of the doors without handles or similar, and wonders if they have some hidden touch-mechanism to open..... But ignores them for now. He focuses for a moment, taking caution this time to inhibit the usual side-effects that accompany casual use of his abilities, and tries to shift his perceptions over to just past the open doorway ahead. He raises a hand for the other kobolds to stop, if they're following him as he expects. His eyes are closed and he perceives the area around that doorway instead, looking slowly around and listening to see what he can find.

[sblock=ooc]Manifesting Clairvoyant Sense again, centered on a spot 5 feet past the open doorway. Rolled a 26 on Concentration to avoid any Displays from this manifestation.

Undeterred in the end, Krixle will follow quickly. Although this time noticeably behind instead of noticeably in front. When the other motions to halt, Krixle will close the remaining distance, and stop, glancing around everywhere for any signs of trouble.

Daragix follows as well, less for scouting and more to make sure another Champion doesn't nearly get themselves killed...

He waits a reasonable and respectful distance away from Zaryz, not wanting to interfere with the mind-mage's concentration.

Aurix falls in behind Zaryz, activating Detect Magic as he follows.
"He's too sure of his abilities." thinks Aurix, "Hopefully this place humbles him or I may be forced to. He's to valuable to our collective to let him die." Aurix lets out a sigh before refocusing on he task at hand.

Zaryz and Aurix both concentrate on their respective magics while the other two Champions wait and watch.

From five feet beyond the open door, Zaryz sees into the room as well as down the hallway that runs to the west. The room is a mess. The furniture has been tossed about. Much of it has been damaged. To the west, Zaryz sees six open doors along the northern wall, spaced at 10-foot intervals.

Through one of the doorways steps a humanoid creature. It is about three feet tall, and is obviously one of the plant creatures. A top-knot leaves sprouts from its head. Its arms, legs, and torso are covered in leaves and root-like tendrils. It carries a crude spear.

Aurix detects no magic not with the party.

Zaryz comes out of his brief trance, and whispers "A plant-kobold is ahead, down the western hallway. The open entrance ahead just goes into a wrecked chamber. We should kill the plant-kobold, yes? It has no tail, so it must be some kind of goblin or other inferior pest."

If the others agree, Zaryz says "I will lead this attack. One of you may lead the next one if you please." and concentrates, turning mental energy into physical stamina and vigor for the next few minutes. As he does so, a strange slime appears on his armor and scales for a few seconds before disappearing, and the kobolds nearby smell something strange that reminds them of old memories, which quickly fades. Then he readies his shield and morningstar, marching towards that hallway.

[sblock=ooc]Ending Clairvoyant Sense. If the others agree to the attack, Zaryz manifests Vigor to gain 5 temporary HP for up to 5 minutes, at the cost of 1 power point. Once he gets close enough for initiatives and attacks to matter, he'll be manifesting another power to see if it will strike down the plant-kobold.....

When he does manifest Vigor, he somehow botches the Concentration check to avoid a display, rolling a total of 11..... So it's obvious to the others that Zaryz has done something.

Krixle moves swiftly behind him, preparing to rush out from behind his back, and assault the plant kobold once its distracted. As he moves, he'll take a look around the room, careful not to miss anything that could lead to another incident like the time before.

Daragix shrugs and walks behind Zaryz. He hopes the other Champion doesn't get himself brutalized, but can never be sure. This place has already proven that he can't expect or hope for anything.

The dragon kobold is cautious and braces himself for more combat, readying his shortspear and raising his small shield. He doesn't bother with any spells, wanting to see what one of these plant-things can do and how he can test himself without the aid of Kurtulmak.

Plant-Kobolds! (Surprise Round)

Alerted to the presence of the strange plant creature, the champions make ready for confrontation. Zaryz manifests a power and everyone readies their weapons. Following Zaryz, the kobolds don't go far before two of the "plant-kobolds" round the corner. They draw up short, apparently surprised by the champions' presence.
