Boingy! Boingy!
Plant-Kobolds! (Round 2)

Zaryz hisses quietly as more of the plant-kobolds arrive. He focuses on the closest uninjured new arrival, stabbing deep into its mind with projected thoughts of rage and pain, trying to fry its brain, if the plant-kobold even has one. Then the dragon kobold steps up into the space beside Krixle, hissing out "Step back, Krixle! You are still injured. And I cannot produce much fire for awhile."

Zaryz's mental assault fails to make contact at all. If the creature has a brain, it is too alien for Zaryz's psychic attack to affect. Krixle motions Zaryz back and focuses on avoiding the attacks of the plant-kobolds, which come quickly. The creatures in the front rank thrust with their spears. One weapon strikes a glancing blow off Zaryz's shoulder, but he suffers no damage. Krixle nimbly evades the other attack.

Seeing the new plants arrive, Aurix lifts his hands and makes a few gestures, he starts a speaking out loud, his voice going high and low sounding both comical and weird, the sounds float over to the plant creatures and attempts to take hold of their minds. Aurix meets with no more success than did Zaryz. The creatures appear immune to the magic.

Daragix snarls at the foolishness of just wading into a fight. Nevertheless, the dragon kobold hefts his spear, tucks himself up a little and rolls forwards, trying to pass through Krixle and Zaryz and get around the plant-kobold, to get to its side or flank it, if possible. Unfortunately, Daragix misjudges the space available for such a risky move. The monster thwacks! Daragix as he moves past Zaryz, causing the dragon kobold to stumble and almost fall backward. Daragix ends up where he started with only a fresh bruise to show for his efforts.

[sblock=OOC] Number 2 on the map is dead, right? Am I gathering that info correctly? If not, then this post is going to have to be jimmied around a little...[/sblock]

Daragix snarls and resists reaching up to rub his new bruise. The dark-scaled dragon kobold shouts out, "Zaryz, forward!" Daragix will step up to occupy Zaryz's vacated space and jab at the plant-thing that smacked him.

Still playing defensively, Krixle takes another swipe at the plant kobold, leaving himself in a position to easily dodge.

Because I've forgotten what figting defensively actually does, is it +2, or +4 to AC?

OOC: Darnit... Okay, that makes my earlier post effectively obsolete. So, instead, this is what Daragix does. And one of the few good rolls I've gotten, too... Oh, well.

Daragix breathes heavily as he is smacked backwards by the plant-kobold-thing. He feels pain and fatigue setting in, so he calls a blessing of healing for himself from Kurtulmak.

[sblock=Daragix]Sooooo........do you want Zaryz to plow forward and overrun the plant-kobold so you can move in to hit it, or do you want him to stay in place as a wall of steel and scales? For now I'm assuming the former...[/sblock]

Zaryz hisses and surges forward, armor clanking, as he tries to push past or knock down the plant-kobold before him and move onto its opposite side. The dragon kobold hopes his sudden rush catches the plant-kobold off guard.

[sblock=ooc]Overrun attempt on plant-kobold #2. Moving forward 2 spaces in total, if successful.

I rolled a 13 total for Zaryz's Strength check, for it to oppose with a Str or Dex check (at -4 if it is Small). Each of the plant-kobolds gets an attack of opportunity against Zaryz, except I think whichever one AoO'd Daragix since its last turn, unless it has Combat Reflexes... If the plant-kobold wants to just let Zaryz pass, then it doesn't roll to oppose and doesn't risk being tripped. Otherwise, it falls prone if Zaryz wins the check.

1d20+1=13

If Daragix rescinds his words this round for Zaryz to move forward, then I'll change Zaryz's choice of action.

Active Effects: Biofeedback (DR 2/-, 3.8/5 minutes remaining), Vigor (5 temporary HP, 4.6/5 minutes remaining)

Zaryz's Condition: AC 17, Armor Conversion 6, DR 2/-, HP 28/23, Initiative 6, 7/30 power points[/sblock]

Plant-Kobolds! (Round 3)

Zaryz hisses and surges forward, armor clanking, as he tries to push past or knock down the plant-kobold before him and move onto its opposite side. The dragon kobold hopes his sudden rush catches the plant-kobold off guard. Zaryz's hopes are not unfulfilled. He plows over the plant creature, leaving it prone on the floor. The other two monsters attempt to stab past Zaryz's guard as the moves past them, but neither attack strikes true.

In his new position, Zaryz alone can see down the west-running corridor. More plant monsters lurk in the distance. One of them is larger than the others, almost as tall as a human.

The plant-kobold knocked down by Zaryz springs to its feet. Krixle slashes it with a claw as it comes up. Zaryz swipes at it with his morningstar as well, but just misses making contact. All three creatures attack, two of them turning their crude spears against Zaryz. One lands a glancing blow off Zaryz's shoulder. None of the other attacks are skillful enough to inflict harm.

Krixle takes another swipe at the plant kobold, leaving himself in a position to easily dodge. The creature ducks under Krixle's claws.

Aurix chants arcane words of power and gestures. Missiles of magic force streak from his fingers, one striking each of the plant kobolds. One of the monsters drops the floor, its trunk torn asunder by the magic. The other two suffer painful-looking injuries.

Daragix breathes heavily as he is smacked backwards by the plant-kobold-thing. He feels pain and fatigue setting in, so he calls a blessing of healing for himself from Kurtulmak. Daragix's less several injuries almost vanish entirely.

Zaryz is satisfied to see the smaller plant-kobold topple under his might, though it gets right back up, flailing away in futility at the inexorable Zaryz. Such feeble attempts. Zaryz decides to teach the other plant-kobold the same lesson in opposing him. He repeats the savage rush, plowing forward over the plant-kobold between him and the new group of plant-kobolds, stopping just in front of the lead plant-kobold in that second group. However, this time Zaryz slips on some plant-kobold sap and plant-kobold pieces, making his rush awkward.

"Two more! And a plant dragon-kobold!" he hisses out to his comrades.

[sblock=ooc]Another overrun attempt, this time against plant-kobold number 3, ending movement in front of plant-kobold 5. AoO from #3 and #2. Zaryz is conserving power points for now, and his armor check penalties make it almost impossible to hit with his weapon. Again, -4 on the plant-kobold's opposed Strength or Dexterity check for small size, if he doesn't just let Zaryz pass.

And that penalty may be the only way Zaryz succeeds this time. !&%!*!! rolled a 1, so 2 total. At least checks don't use the natural 1/natural 20 rule.
