D&D 4E 4E at the Printers!

From the article: Hahahah, fantastic! The cake is not a lie!

*anxiously awaits the day when a "leaked" PDF copy of the ruleset hits the intarwebs*

EDIT: Of course I do not condone copyright violation, but since I already have the entire ruleset preordered from Amazon I wouldn't mind a sneak peek at the PDFs I'll get when I get my books :)

Ditto.

With the inclusion of the Monty Python sketch, I rate this thread at 15 Zeldas.

On a more related note, this IS a time to celebrate. We'll be getting 4E on time, and with much more playtesting and editing than has ever been seen in D&D core books! My players and I can't wait for H1 to get access to more comprehensive rules.

Especially with the quasi-open playtesters that were being used. Sure, they were under an NDA (which I understand has been lifted) but as dozens of video game Betas have shown, lots of people have little regard for NDAs and will talk, scan, and post just about anything they have access to.

Kudos to Wizards for the wall of silence, even if it makes it a little more painful for the fans who want more info :)

Actually, that's a good question. Have the NDA's been lifted?

I wonder how much money wizards could make if they started selling the pdf version now? maybe some sort of pdf print combo and you got the print version when its done printing.

The upside would be their would be lots of people buying it now I imagine, the downside if their are any mistakes or major flaws, we would know about it way before the books ever officially done (finished with print and on store shelves).

That would be awesome...have some kind of deal that poeple who have the books pre-ordered could buy the PDF in May or something.

I would totally do that.

I was under the impression that the NDAs were lifted in early March (when Massawyrm from AICN posted his review) and that it would definitely be lifted by the time DDXP was over. But a few quick googles can't find any definitive word from WotC that the NDA is over, just more people saying "I'm sure it'll be over by X date" where X is DDXP or the books going to the printer.

Patience is a virtue, I guess...

Do they really spend a month on editing? If that is the case, how is there EVER an excuse for errors? I don't get how errata is acceptable. Why do editors get paid if there are errors? How do they get through?

I've worked on upper division math texts. The people with good editing skills can't follow the math. The people with the math skills can't edit worth beans. Who does the editing? Answer: doesn't matter -- there will be problems.

Same with RPG books. The guys that know the rules and know, for example, that the word "not" completely ruins your example, aren't the editors*. The editors look at that sentence and see it as grammatically correct and properly spelled and off it goes.

*I speak in general and don't actually know the folks on the projects.

PS

From all the scoops released, only certain playtesters received the go-ahead to say anything at all, people like Ari (and presumaly MAssawyrm, since he games with Ari), John Rogers, Keith Baker, etc. And Andy Collins said on these very forums that if you were a playtester, unless you got something in writing, assume the gag is NOT off. He also said, if you're a playtester, NO, don't go asking them to remove the gag from you. :D
