First Post
I don't know if it's already been posted, but the official french translation for D&D4E has been announced last week :

http://www.playfactory.fr/dungeons_dragons/

The release dates are the same as the english books and the translation seems to be of nice quality (can't wait to play my "Maitre de Guerre Drakeide" aka "Dragonborn Warlord") :D

You spelled Maître wrong!

Kidding aside, does anyone know if WoTC uses in-house translators for these kind of jobs?

Oh, a June release, that's very nice.

They do not for Spanish version, and sometimes they use different translators, so important terms get different names, like, Barbarian Rage ends as "Furia" or "Rabia", which is a bit confusing.

I'm going to e-mail DeVir and see if we got to wait till October or what...

EDIT: There's some interesting information (maybe old) on that announcement:

• Manuel des Joueurs - Juin 2008
- Plus de 150 talents et 200 objets magiques

Magical items at PHB.

• Guide du Maître - Juin 2008
- Plus de 20 archétypes, parmi lesquels la liche et le seigneur des vampires

Templates at the DMG?

• Bestiaire Fantastique - Juin 2008
- Plus de 500 monstres, de l’aboleth au zombie
- Des règles pour créer des personnages issus de races humanoïdes et monstrueuses
- Rassurez-vous, le gnome y est

Rules to create PCs with monster races, and a special mention for gnomes.

So, they get it nearly simultanously with the English market? Wow, that's fast! I hope they did their job well. Though, what do I care? It's not like I would pick up a french book, I am not even interested in the German versions.
I actually get confused if I try to play games like Neverwinter Nights in German. Is Warlock the "Hexer" and Sorceror the "Hexenmeister", or vice versa?

Given the prices I see, I'm starting to think I'll buy English books via Amazon and my players will make the effort to read them... I HOPE...

Besides I didn't see any news about Italian translation, and this so much stinks of delays. I want the books in June, not July, not even end of June! :D

EDIT: It seems the Italian edition will be released more or less at the same time too. But I don't know, I think the price might drive me toward the English version anyway. Besides, I wouldn't stop in horror in front of translation obscenities when reading the English version...

I'd be interested, if the Euro wouldn't be so expensive vs the $Can.

Don't think they'll release it in Quebec as soon?

I did like browsing Valet d'Coeur when I was in Montreal. The French books were neat. I learned English via gaming...I wonder if I could learn French the same way. Nice gaming shop btw.

Stolen Quote:

Vincent: 'You know what they call a 5 ft. step in, uh, France?'

Jules: 'They don’t call it a 5 ft. step?'

Vincent: 'No, they got 4th Ed over there; they wouldn’t know what a 5ft. step is.'

Jules: 'What do they call AC?'

Vincent: 'Well, AC is AC, but they call it le AC…'

Jules: 'What do they call a monk?'

Vincent: 'I don't know; they haven’t released that class yet…'
