Robbing from your companions is no way to begin a new and profitable friendship! Rest your hands, my light fingered friend, lest they get chopped off (they do that around here, you know). We have no need for theft when we can work together to profit everyone!

AC 17 isn't terrible for someone wearing medium armor and using a 2 handed weapon. The best you're going to do is AC 18, realistically, with a Ring of Protection. I'd say if you want tanky AC, you may want to switch to a longsword and pick up a shield.

I kind of feel like the disposition of the funds should be something we could discuss in-character during the game? :)

Well it's just a writ from the Sheikh not a bag full of gold. Not sure how much, but some of it is spoken for by the people i hired to escort us. Besides I'd rather you focus on killing things faster than taking hits all day.

I'm going to cop to something here. I didn't realize the gold actually existed in game. I thought it was just part of character creation. I'm still interested in hearing how magical items might be priced, but it sounds like there's actual narrative built around the money. I won't disturb that especially before I meet the group.

Soo... you need frontline help? You are ok with a player who doesn't know the setting and is willing to play an outsider to reflect that ignorance ? I may be able to help...

P.S. not greedy PC at all ;)

A few more notes (sorry, I should have reread everything), I was initially going to push AC until I heard there were penalties for medium/heavy armor. The Fighter/Guardian subclass is essentially a sticky fighter that keeps enemies on him so turtling makes sense. I don't know what the penalties are (heat wise), but I decided to sacrifice that for genre. I didn't want to just run a Dex fighter though because I already play a dex based paladin and I wanted new ground to cover.

So, if high AC wasn't an option that means go for high HP since I'll take a lot of hits (since I'm sticky) and push damage. I considered doing a Polearm Master build to really abuse the Guardian mechanics, but if felt cheap so I just went for Great Weapon and max damage. The Flametongue has great damage potential, but fire resistance is common. That's the thought behind a backup weapon. With the flamtongue and GWM, I have three attacks at +4 to hit (+9 -5=+4) for 2d6+15+2d6 fire damage each. That should average around 29 damage per hit (7+15+7) and 87 damage per round. Dropping GWM (if they have high AC), 2d6+5+2d6 (7+5+7) which is still an average of 19 damage per hit and 57 damage per round. I should be dangerous.
