D&D 5E [5e] QL's Al-Qadim Game

Okay the story as I've experienced it so far is:
Caravans have been attacked all over the desert and all this comes with the appearance of a city that moves from plane to plane, so a connection is assumed. Our group was tasked by my father the Sheik of Tajar, city of trade. We were give the name of 3 prominent merchants in the city who have been directly accosted by the brigands. The first one we talked to ran an auction house and she was successfully negotiated into telling us information as well as giving us a manifest of what was stolen. Also we acquired some old dudes spell book that some nasty looking people wanted. They give us dirty looks as we leave but make no moves for direct confrontation. We head to the second merchant, the whole time being rather expertly stalked by one of the people we offended by acquiring the book. As we are negotiating with the pompous fool to learn what they took from him, Amina spots the stalker and excuses herself to retrieve him. We put the stalker into a vacant cage and through some crazy negotiation skills on my part discover his clans history, as the former Sheik's personal assassin's/bodyguards, the curse placed upon them that caused them to have hideous looking second mouths on the back of their neck, and their mission for redemption. The book we got from the auction house is said to contain the whereabouts of a large hidden treasure trove. Before you get to excited I promised them the gold in exchange for their assistance on our desert mission.

We are currently set to meet them in the morning to set off on our mission. The story is rough around the edges, but that is the gist of it.

Well we can easily write out my sister due to her episode her father could deem her unfit for travel at this time. Depending on your background and who you know he might suggest you. If you're the rogue I'm not sure how to get you invested in the trip.

Thateous : thanks for the recap! How do the watermages mentioned on the recap posted on the first page fit into this though?

Edit: Sea Mages

So my sister is a mage who does fire but not a member of the brotherhood of flame. The water mages accused my sister of being associated with the brotherhood and of polluting his decisions with their agenda.
We, being the diplomatic party that we were, talked the two siblings down and they told us about the brotherhoods misdeeds and how they hunt down sea mages. Brotherhood of flame is also suspected of being behind the raids on trade caravans.

Well, if he's the Grand Caliph's nephew, then perhaps the Grand Caliph has requested that he be his representative. Perhaps the Grand Caliph either understands how talented Harun is and how useful he could be, or he wants his wayward nephew to stop conning merchants and corrupt Sheiks out of their inheritances and is sending him on this task as a means to keep him occupied. Or both.

I really like this. Harun has a bit of a reputation at court so his parents politely ask his uncle – the Grand Caliph – to send him somewhere that he won't be an embarrassment. However, the Grand Caliph sees a spark of potential in Harun (the Grand Caliph himself having once been an adventurer) and decides to put Harun's disguise talents to work against these raiders.

In fact, a fun way to introduce Harun (owing to his penchant for disguise) is that he's already there! He's just disguised! So we could pick a minor NPC like a palace guard or a merchant or someone who has a reason to be in the throne room of the Sheikh of Tajar, and Harun can pull off his mask (or his hat of disguise) and reveal himself. Very Arabian Nights. :)

And Thateous thanks for giving folks a recap! I think it's really helpful (for me too) to hear it from a player's perspective.
Ancalagon I PM'ed you the links to the playtest docs. Apologies for my delay getting back to you all.

No worries Quickleaf , life gets in the way sometimes - in fact I was so busy today I wouldn't have had time to read it until this evening anyway ha!

Any comments on the local dervishes and how they would approach or be perceived by the Sheikh?
