6th level spell for a Sorceror

It has to be between True Seeing and Contingency. Under core rules Contingency is one of the few ways sorcerers can cast a more tan 1 spell a round.

Fortunately, Arcane Preparation from the Complete Arcane opened up Quicken Spell as an option... both feats I'm lucky enough to have. Does cut into the sorcerors versatility by tying up some higher level slots, but I feel it's a price worth paying.

Wages of Sin does not require exalted status, tho it is a [Good] spell and requires to not use intoxicants/stimulants (drugs & booze ;)).

It works only on evil targets (1/level with medium range) and let's those who fail their save fight against other evil creatures in the most effective way (to their own knowledge).

Quite nasty spell against a group of evil opponents. Some will probably fail their save and basically "turn sides".

BTW, you're missing Limited Wish... one of the best Sorcerer spells all around (even if you use it sparingly, the options it gives in a case of emergency are really worth it).

I consider it one of the best spells in BoED. Perhaps too powerful in fact.

Thanks Thanee. Wages of sin does sound good. All I can say is Ow! A new and better enchantment would be cool. Think you've sold me on it!

Totally agree about Limited wish - will be added to the list next level. Didn't want it to be my first and only 7th level spell. Found myself lacking in AOE stuff so took delayed blast fireball second. Had a few situations since where it would have been really useful, but that's always the way? It's not as bad as it could be - the diviner tends to keep one memorised at all times.

How very exalted of you! Not only do you steal and then mutilate my characters body, but now you're threatening my familiar with your ghastly cat. I'm tempted to write a strongly worded missive to Raziel.

Have you got Cleave yet? Think it's all you'll need to qualify for Blackguard. :D

Hey now, I didn't steal your crappy body, you stole mine, and as I said your body got turned female 'cause you whine too much! :p

And what can I say about your familiar? It's just not right now is it what with all those tentacles!

I will pick up Limited Wish as my first 7th level spell for sure in two levels. But then again, I do have Heighten Spell (IMHO one of the best feats for a Sorcerer and certainly my most-used one, ok probably on par with Empower Spell and Spell Focus), so I don't really need a higher level spell, I already got a few. :)

I also have a lack of area effects (pretty much the only one now is Glitterdust), mostly because I have Evocation as my prohibited school (Incantatrix). Had Fireball (from before multiclassing to Incantatrix) for a while, but ditched that now.

First 6th level spell was Planar Binding, btw. ;)
Second will be Analyze Dweomer and third one Wages of Sin.

P.S. Oh, and instead of Spell Penetration I picked up Extra Spell: Assay Resistance, since I have a lack of area spells, anyways, it's simply a better choice (at 12th+ level).

Find arcane prep and quicken to be a great combination for me. Tend to make wide use of both of them.

I noticed Assay Resistance trawling through the CA the other day. Would definitely seem the better way to go from a spell penetration point of view. IME, stuff which has a high SR will generally make it's saves against my spells. Which leaves me using damaging effects - I tend to rely on the elemental orb spells and they don't offer SR... ah well, I supose it's a feat that'll be useful sometime!

Is the Incantrix from FR setting? Is it working out well? What's the theme of it?

Still not plotted out exactly where I'm heading from here. It will involve the final, transcending level of Alienist at some point. The other 3 levels will most likely be in Archmage.

For the rest of 8th level, it's likely Mindblank + Polymorph any Object

My original idea was to take Gate as my first 9th level spell and couple it in with that final Alienist level. Beyond that, I'm not 100% sure - Reaving Dispel, Shapechange and Time Stop all hold their charms...

A half baked plan has been growing on me as a Gate replacement. :) Lacks the travel and versatility, but doesn't cost 1000 XP. - I would take my 18th level feat from the Complete Adventurer. Can't recall the name, but it lets you maintain concentration as a Move action. Couple that up with the Elemental Monolith summoning spell - describe with more tentacles. Woo! - an elemental horror from beyond. Would suit me nicely. :uhoh:

After all, the Wizard and Cleric should both be able to gate if we need to. If I'm ever in dire need of getting on or off a plane, then a Limited Wish can get me a clerical Plane Shift.

Another option I've been considering is to branch into counterspelling. Take Improved Counterspelling feat. The arcana which allows you to redirect spells instead of countering them. Swap out Hold Monster for Duelward.

Course this is all rather subject to campaign events. Not least of which is surviving. :)

Yes, it's FR. Theme is METAMAGIC. The class gets bonus metamagic feats, the ability to spontaneously apply metamagic feats to spells that others are casting and spells already in place, as well as the ability to wrest control of spells cast by other casters. The capstone abilities are the ability to x/day cast a metamagic spell as though you were using the Sudden version of the metamagic feat, and a -1 reduction in spell level cost when casting metamagic spells the normal way...so you could cast a quickened spell using a spell slot 3 levels higher instead of 4.

I'm playing one currently, although I've only just entered the PrC. My DM, who knows not what he hath wrought, decided that he's using the 3/day variant on metamagic feats from Unearthed Arcana. Sweet baby Jesus. If I can just survive until I get Persistent Spell...
