Always a problem for any class, I find! But I find it most noticable for sorcerors somehow.
Yep, definitely. Moreso, if you also take "flavor" feats, like Education, as I did.
Instant Quicken has got to be good. Now that would be a difficult feat to get hold of normally, IIRC the prequisites in CA are quite extreme. Quickened item use. Yikes! Now, if you could afford a staff - that could get really unpleasant!
Only "problem" is the requirement for the appropriate Craft Item feat, and since we play CotSQ, there is very little time for item crafting, which is why I abandoned that path.
Dominate Monster is a nice spell - although I'm not a massive fan of single target Save Negates spells - IME, anything really impressive is probably going to make it's save... so it leaves 'mooks' to dominate.
Yep, but as an "enchantment specialist" (as much as a sorcerer can be a specialist, that is, I don't really have
that many enchantment spells), that spell is a must-have for sure.
My
Dominate Person at least once ended a major combat and gave us so much information, that we probably jumped ahead a whole session. That was pretty cool!
Currently, we have only few "persons" opposing us, so its type limitation is really showing...
Shades is another great spell for a sorceror - tons of versatility and no expensive components - very tempting.
Yep, it really offers a lot, and even at 80% effectiveness the effects are pretty good still.
On the flip side, I considered
Greater Shadow Evocation, but that spell is just bad, because it doesn't give any chance for non-damaging effects to work when the target makes the Will save. Otherwise (if it would work exactly like
Shadow Conjuration) it would be pretty cool...
Shame it's 'only' Summoning and Creation subtypes...
That's still a rather huge bunch of good spells there.
No
Teleport or
Maze, tho.
Does cover some great stuff, although I can't help wondering how an 80% real Magnificent Mansion works?
It just works 80% of the time.
Shadow objects or substances have normal effects except against those who disbelieve them.
Against disbelievers, they are 20% 80% likely to work.
With a 20% chance the spell simply fails to work, with an 80% chance it's a fully effective copy of the spell.
