A Night at the Four Seasons (DM: renau1g, Judge:Ozymandias79)

"I don't think I want any elaboration on your 'arts'", Phoenix says. "These eladrin have a fiery afterlife to get to."
Damen chuckles. Oh, dear woman, you cut me to the quick! Alas, I will just have to console myself with further practice in the killing arts. I am planning something special for the old man when we return.

"I would love to explain the intricacies of our fey schemes, but alas I think that you haven't the time for that nor would you be able to comprehend. I have heard from you mortals that even after an explanation it baffles you. It is the same for us, we cannot fathom the frenetic nature in which most of you conduct yourselves. I am grateful that you have dealt with these interlopers for me, perhaps Lord Aramil will think twice next time. I have thought about it and I will absolve you of any further requests, allowing you to leave now, well once you clear out these dead bodies, I don't need any scavengers coming around" Lady Elerosse says, smiling as Phoenix engulfs the corpses in flames.

Damen locates a trio of potions on the dead bodies, as well as a handful of semi-precious stones and some platinum pieces.

OOC: Potions are 1 x potion of healing, 1 x Lesser Elixir of Invisibility, and 1 x Potion of Eladrin Shape (thrown in for fun :))

The fey keeps her word and after the corpses are disposed of, she will lead the party through a series of winding tunnels that are accessible from her cellar. After nearly an hour of walking a heavy-looking, cold iron bound door is blocking your path. Lady Elerosse gestures for you to enter, "The portal you seek is through there" she says, adding "Oh, and do me a favour, if you see Lord Arnamil, stab him in the face" with a laugh, or more aptly, a cackle.

Beyond the doorway lies an enclosed grove, their trunks growing so close together that they form a wall, protecting this area from the outside. In the center of the clearing lies your goal.

Moving through you emerge into darkness, not the kind that you have from a starless night, but rather the complete omission of light. You realize that you are underground.

The cavern is so dark here that it absorbs light. It makes candles of your torches and lanterns, shadows diminishing even magical light. You can see no farther than your hands can reach, even the darkvision of Damen cannot penetrate the gloom. You slowly make your journey, the darkness playing tricks of vision and mind. The darkness retreats, reforms, taunts, and cajoles. It reaches into your mind, creating a parade of your fears, anxieties and humiliations.

As the shadow makes its presence known to you more and more frequently, you realize that you are inside a darkness that lives. It breathes shadow and speaks a cryptic dark speech. It is unintelligible at first, the language of darkness, but with horror you realize you are beginning to learn the darkness’ idioms, its tone, its meanings.

A thought eclipses all others: The Darkness wants you dead.

Skill Challenge time...

Special rules for this one. Before any skill check, a player must choose to fight the darkness or become one with the shadow. If you fight the darkness a -2 on your skill checks, if you become one with the shadow you gain a +1 on the rolls. [/sblock]

OOC: There are many relevant skills available. I'm open to people's thoughts. If you feel something is appropriate try it, if you think it's borderline, PM me and I'll give you my thoughts. Some skills I've got easier DC's, others harder.

"Interesting, I wonder what secrets this strange presence holds," Phoenix says, sparking a small sphere of flame to life in her palm as she listens to make out what the darkness is saying. She watches intently to see its reaction to her fire.

OOC: Phoenix finds this intriguing and is all for learning magical secrets, but if it snuffs out her magical flames, she might change her mind in the future...

[sblock=Arcana 19, becoming one]Arcana: 1d20+12+1(becoming one with the darkness, forgot to include it in IC)=19.[/sblock]

You realize that this darkness is some sentient, or perhaps semi-sentient, force. The shadow feeds on the negative energies of those it envelopes. [/sblock]

Damen smiled in the Darkness. Drow were creatures of the dark, and anything that had a will had the ability to be turned to other uses... or fooled. How many times had the drow made a mark thing they were getting one thing when in reality it was Damen who came out on top.
OOC: Lets see if we can use its power to Bluff it: Bluff ("giving in", of course): 26

"Where is--help!" Papolstaanas calls out, stretching his arms in front of him as he loses his sense of where he is and who is nearby. Then he is startled see what looks like the twisted faces of his own family--his mother, his innumerable brothers and sisters--peering out of the darkness and laughing cruelly at his helpless fear, and he struggles desperately to clear his head of the visions and conquer the strange force that seems to be oppressing him.

OOC: I attack the darkness!

[sblock=Endurance]Endurance, -2 for attacking the darkness (1d20+10-2=24)[/sblock]
