A Night at the Four Seasons (DM: renau1g, Judge:Ozymandias79)

OOC: Oh, right. I forget renau1g, did you want me to retool her after the fight or after the adventure?

Mechanically, she cast Light to make that fire, btw.

As the darkness presses in around him, Tarkus wraps the chain of his holy symbol around his fist and begins to pray. For a moment a silvery glow begins to envelope his hands, but his prayers falter and the glow dies as a single thought worms its way into his brain...

Failure.

He sees the face of the Goddess above him once again, awesome and terrible, Her mouth set in anger, her eyes dripping with disappointment. He feels the stab in his heart again as he remembers her words: "You do not serve me. You serve your own desires." He relives, over and over again, the shame of Her curse.

"JUNA! All I ever wanted was to serve you! To bring Your justice to those who deserved it! Don't abandon me to this!"

And a whispering voice echoes back out of the darkness: "I never abandoned you. You abandoned me."

Kaeysari prods slowly around with the butt of her glaive.

"Okay... wall there. Don't step there, that's unsteady. Come on, soldier, it's just darkness. You're not alone. You've got friends here. There around here. They're. . . somewhere. You just can't see them. At all." She makes her way around very slowly, remembering where everyone was, and making sure they're still there. "I can deal with darkness. I don't need to see. I can hear, I can smell, I can feel."

"Oblivion has no power over immortals. Knowledge of self does not depend on outside light. Power of lightning will light the darkness regardless of it's cause. In the name of Mireva, by power of Joven, let me pass!"

Cyr calls upon his faith and distant thunder answers somewhere in the darkness. Burst of lightning lights the darkness for a moment, leaving lines in everyone's vision.

OOC: Fighting the darkness, after calling on Joven, he casts Vanguard's Lightning far in front of the party.

*Kauldron idly stares into the darkness looking abouts. His mind playing tricks upon him, swirling in chaos. He pulls a cigar out of his cigar box strapped to his leg. Placing it without his mouth and snaps his fingers. A small flame igniting upon the end of his index finger. He lights the cigar and takes a long draw of it. He sighs releasing a bellow of smoke as he did so.*

My god surrounds me at all times. I can feel him even now with you in my mind. The flame of chaos is light within the darkness. Without light there can be no darkness. One is the other. When one deaths, so dies the other. My god is both. He is the flame of light and the drive of darkening madness. The pull of chaos moving one way or the other. So tell me being of utter darkness. If you snuff the light will you fear your own demise?

*He grins wickedly, and takes another pull of his cigar releasing it.*

By allowing bits of the sentient force into her psyche, Phoenix also manages to pry some insight about the creature or being.

Similarly, Damen's cunning and quick mind aid the drow in avoiding some of the worst of the effects.

Papolstaanas calls out for aid and the darkness leaps on the perceived weakness, but the kobold is made of sterner stuff. Reaching deep into himself, Papo resolutely marches forward, overcoming fear, anxiety and despair.

As the others are succeeding, Tarkus' own self doubt takes over as the darkness works its way into his mind, warping his faith, his patron, and nearly overwhelming him. The cleric begins wandering down a darkened side tunnel when Kaeysari grabs his shoulder and helps Tarkus follow the main path.

Cyr wraps himself in his faith and pushes out the encroaching malevolence, while in his trademark even-headed manner, begins berating and putting the force on edge, as much as such a powerful force can be thrown off.

The party must be making progress, but how much further is the path and even more importantly, how much longer can they hold out?

Skill Challenge time...Round 1 completed. Any re-use of checks will be a -2 to the roll to prevent spamming of your "best" skills. Great job so far, descriptions are awesome!

Special rules for this one. Before any skill check, a player must choose to fight the darkness or become one with the shadow. If you fight the darkness a -2 on your skill checks, if you become one with the shadow you gain a +1 on the rolls. [/sblock]

Damen's smile widened as his gambit seemed to work... or, that he convinced himself it worked. Now, for the next step.

The greatest trick the Dark Lady ever pulled was convincing the world she didn't exist. He whispered to himself.

And like that, poof. He's gone.
OOC: Now that the Darkness is looking somewhere else... Hide from the Darkness! Stealth (giving in): 27
