[sblock=Arcana 16]It's definably a demon. A large and powerful one. You believe they are known as Barlguras.[/sblock]

[sblock=Arcana 21] It's too big to be a Barlgura, but certainly looks like one. It's either been changed in some way or your looking at some kind of illusion.

Barlguras are generally rough brutes, with little tactics out of combat. You feel confident in your ability to take one down.[/sblock]

[sblock=Arcana 26]Its real as real can be, but it's way too big and pulsing with some kind additional source of power. This will not be like fighting a normal Barlgura. You don't know what to expect but a wake of destruction if it isn't stopped.[/sblock]

[sblock=History 11]Wouldn't be the first time a giant demon appeared in the Jade Kingdom.[/sblock]

[sblock=Religion 16]Its most certainly a powerful and evil demon of some kind.[/sblock]

Incarnation studies the creature from the back of the wagon. It takes a form of a demon, but twisted and bloated, powers mixing beyond mere arcane might. A brute of little tactics, but one of such size will surely only cause rampant destruction if not stopped. He gauges the states of his companions quickly. One of their normal ilk would fall before us like paper, but this thing... I am less certain. A turning point we stand at and Fate is no guide. I go with the many.

OOC: I'm assuming no short rest (so no Encounter powers). Incarnation will fight or stay with the majority.

Rurdev already mounted, turns to see what the rest of the group does. He was a great warrior, but matters of the arcane were beyond him, and this thing was big...real big. "W-What are we doin' g-g-guys?!"

[sblock=ooc]Rurdev's vote is to run. I wait on any more insight from anybody else. As was said, I am out of encounter powers, which is where all my nova damage comes from. I'd be twin striking from here on out, unless I use my dailies. I used my AP already too.[/sblock]

'tween da hammer n' da anvil, we are. Mi wish ta fight, but mi can't leave da Warden 'lone. Stay out da fight Warden, but stay her'. We can cut dis hellion down.

[sblock=OOC]I am out of encounter power, but I have two dailies, 2 utilities, my AP and all my healing. What I have left is perfect against Melee opponents that target AC a lot (He seems to be focused on melee and I hope he doesn't throw a curveball and make slams that target reflex instead of AC).

Raiyek also have full healing; 3 lay on hand plus his daily. We all have our second winds, I think.

We failed our last skill challenge; Scorpius ain't affraid to make them tough. My high skills are insight and heal with a good religion and history; not much use to run. Raiyek is also devoid of good running away skills. Georg and Incarnation only have a decent endurance score to contribute.

We are 6, 7 if the warden rejoin us.

A standard Barlgura is level 8 standard and we'd tear through it.

It's obviously tougher. But how much? I say we can take it if it's up to Solo level 12. It'd be a coin toss epic victory or TPK, but it's possible (Because it's a brute, if it was another kind, I'd never feel we can go as high as level 12!)

Finally, Hadrak is lawful good. All silly jokes aside, he'd be loath to flee if it means a rampaging beast will kill the next civilian it meets... If there is any chance at all to stop it, he'll want to stand.
[/sblock]

-''If we run, anyone this beast kills is on our soul. We're not exactly in the middle of a jungle. If we successfully evade it, who knows how many innocents will pay the price. It might destroy any number of villages along this road.'' Hadrak says with gravity. ''Beside, come on, there are worst ways to die than torn apart by a giant oni baboon!'' he adds with a wink.

[sblock=DM]Did any of those knowledge checks get us the level, or even approximate level, of the barlgura?[/sblock]
[sblock=OOC]Mal summed up my thoughts nicely. We've still got all our healing resources, looking at Iron to Glass it's really nasty against brutes (by the way, it doesn't seem to matter whether the target's attacks target AC or another defense, it affects any melee attack), and if anyone goes down I've got this handy powder thingy that keeps people from dying ;)

And while Raiyek isn't Lawful Good, he is also loath to let this thing rampage through the nearby villages. Plus we really aren't too good at running, haha. [/sblock]
Raiyek turns around to look at the giant beast from the seat beside Dane. "I agree with Hadrak - if we have a chance to stop it, I'd rather try than let it tear through innocents. What are heroes for if not battles such as this?" As he speaks the elf draws a javelin, looking intently at the immense demon and feeling the balance of the spear.

"Okay th-then. Let's t-t-tear it up."

[sblock=ooc/DM]Okay fight time. I still assume there wasn't a short rest in there, and this is a seperate encounter, so my longtooth shifting expired as well correct?[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Mechanically, since you're fighting, its the same encounter. As with any normal encounter you can certainly try and run if things get too tough, which will again trigger the skill challenge, though probably not the same one exactly.

You're knowledge checks do not give you his level, but I will confirm that a standard Barlurga is level 8 and he is not standard.

Map and stuff tomorrow. Good luck.[/sblock]

The Warden turns his horse around moment later, seeing the resolution on your minds.

"NO!" He shouts. "We must to the Academy!" None the less he charges back towards you, sword at the ready.
