[Adventrue] Lord Ogglebottoms Odd Tasks II: The Mysterious Imlach Island

GM: No matter what option you take, the encounter is over.

[sblock=OOC]
Sorry, but just to clarify DMDanW:
Thorn lost his regeneration, but must continue to roll saves (poison/slow) now that the encounter is over, correct?

If that is the case, Thorn's option vote is a no-brainer: he's restricted to 2 move while slowed so he won't be moving forward. He'd stay and fight (and hopefully get some first-aid).

You do have at least 1 round to spend a surge / makes saves etc before you move on. Minharath made a heal check to give you an additonal save vs poison here (http://www.enworld.org/forum/living...-mysterious-imlach-island-20.html#post5396070), giving you either an immediate save vs poison (before you take more ongoing damage) or giving you a +2 to your next regular check.

Starting the next battle without a short rest will mean that any encounter powers spent this battle will not be available for the next one, including Longtooth Shifting.

Thorn thanks Minharath, but it seem's the kruthik's poison is too strong to treat.

Free: makes an immediate save vs poison/slow: 1d20 (Save vs Slow & poison)=4

Thorn vomits up the last of the insect's poison onto the cave floor. He looks embarrassed, but ready to move on.

GM: No matter what option you take, the encounter is over. Longtooth shifting is spent as well as any other ongoing encounter powers that there may have been.

To regain encounters you need to take a short (5 minute) rest.

This is a creative way of interpreting the rules. By the definition of encounter and short rest, if we don't take a rest, the encounter is not over. That is why encounter powers don't reset. Is it your intention to specifically alter these conventions for the purpose of this adventure, or is this just a miscommunication?[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=OOC]IC, Gloom would go for option 1, but OOC, I would rather take a short rest first. Longtooth shifting no more running, all the encounter power gone. A few daily and AP gone in the group, we won't be able to continue for long without short rest. What bother me most is the Healing Words and Healer's Mercy.[/SBLOCK]

[sblock=personal opinion]This is a no brainer. There is no advantage to continuing without a short rest if the encounter is over anyway. The changes to Milestones, plus the lack of continued effects, indicate no advantage whatsoever to not restoring used spells.[/sblock]

"...no advantage whatsoever to not restoring used spells."

There is only one situation I can think of: if the adventure is set on a "timer", so the loss of 5 minutes (short rest) might be detrimental to our goals. But there has been no indication of anything like this (timer), unless I missed something...

OOC: Going by what DMDanW has said, if we just stay here we can't take a short rest. We either have to go forward, taking our chances with the skill challenge (anyone got Dungeoneering trained?) to possibly get a chance to take a breather, or go back out and rest in the swamp, with (I'm guessing) a strong likelihood of having to fight our way through this front part of the cave all over again. Personally, I vote for forward both IC and OOC.

Well this is the way I have played and to me makes sense. Take for example an encounter power like Longtooth shifting. Say the group kills all the enemies in a room, and knows that there are more enemies in the building that most likely have heard the fight and will be coming to investigate. If they had any sort of powers running that granted regeneration, like Longtooth Shifting, they could simply sit there and wait for others to come to them, an in effect, have one super long encounter. It would be even more beneficial if they had dailys running that granted really good benefits till the end of the encounter. Using the 'definition' you stated above, they could simply stay in one room, draw the attention of all the inhabitants of the building to them and as they slowly came in, slaughter them all during that one extended encounter.

Now I suppose that in the options I laid out, the second option of holding your ground does kind of sound like I implied that another wave of Kruithik would be upon the group in a matter of seconds. By that thinking then yes, I suppose the current encounter wouldn't end, and a another encounter would merge itself into the current one. this wasn't my original intention, but looking back now, I can see where I have mislead everyone into thinking that.

Thanks for pointing this out.

As Thorn expels the poison from his body, and the group gets ready, you can hear the sound of Kruthik getting closer...

GM: OK everyone, slight change to your options.
After re-reading my posts and looking at it from a different angle I am issuing the following change. Option #2 (stand your ground) will now be considered part of the same encounter - any encounter powers that are running are still running; ie Longtooth shifting. My wording did not convey my original intent, but due to what I have already laid out as options I feel it only fair to give you this choice.

So to restate;
Option 1 - press forward into a skill challenge with a chance to get in a short rest along the way and get closer to your goal.
Option 2 - stand your ground - no short rest, but is still the same encounter. No closer to your goal, but no further away either.
Option 3 - pull back - get a short rest (or even an extended I suppose depending on how far back you go) and then try and get back into the hive at a later time. Further from your goal, but a guaranteed short rest.

In this regard you have 3 options that cover the range of possibilities.

Sorry for the confusion. (Honestly - It made sense in my head when I typed it out the first time, but I can now see how it didn't convey what I was trying to say).

You guys are in the middle of a Kruithik Hive - of course you should be in a hurry!
