Adventure: A Fish Story (DM: BenBrown; Judge: renau1g)

[sblock=OOC]
Yeah, this fight is brutal! But we can hope it goes over okay... I think die rolls are part of the reason we're getting wiped!

Also, this PBP is going super fast. Just got home from work, making my update now...

[sblock=ooc]As I said in an earlier post, Abi would have converted that first hit into temp HP damage (so she has no AC bonus anymore)... So that would put her at 12 HP, right? Although, I guess looking at that post, I wasn't super specific. So, if that didn't count, Abi is using those temp HP now...
[/sblock]

Abigail, bloodied by the foes surrounding her, grits her teeth and keeps on fighting. She pulls the long dagger out of the wall, and then gracefully slides past the mercenary's defences, coming up behind him, slashing out with her blade. The mercenary skillfully parries the blow, knocking Abigail's dagger from her hands.

"Damn." Abigail curses, realizing she's now surrounded.

[sblock=ooc]Okay, folks, after doing some comparative statting, I've made some modifications to the Wizard and the Leader. The Wizard is no longer the tank, but a more typical controller. Still won't change the effects of anyone who's attacked her. The rolls in those cases were pretty dire. Changes to the leader were behind the scenes. I always feel like I'm cheating doing this, even though it's because I screwed up earlier. Better this than die-fudging, though. It's still a tough fight, and I expect at least one of you to pull the daily out.[/sblock]

[sblock=wik]I'll go with your earlier post even though I didn't see it, and mark HP appropriately.[/sblock]

I'm a little confused by a few things. 1) you seem to think you have CA, although I can't figure out from where. You're not flanking the guy.
2) on the other hand, you didn't include the +1 from Talks-to-the-Moon. 3) when did you draw the dagger? I thought you were using the longsword the whole time? If you do in fact get CA from some source I've missed, then with the +1 from Talks-to-the-Moon it should be a hit.[/sblock]

I did overlook the bonus from Talks-To-Moon. As for my Combat Advantage, Talks To Moon moved to A17, and... ah, crap. I see what I did. I got ahead of myself. Abby shifted to B19, and then Luring Strike lets Abby shift again before the attack, which I didn't record. I forgot how difficult PbP combats can be! I should have added that she shifted to C19 before the attack, thus letting her get CA. Since that attack WOULD be a hit with the attack bonus (and +3 extra damage), Abby gets to shift 1 square and slide the target into C19. Abby will slide into C20.

Finally, the short sword. The first time Abby had combat advantage, on the catwalk, she "dropped" it as a free action (I flavour texted it as jabbing it into a wall). This round, she retrieved it as a minor action before making the attack, and at the end of her turn dropped it as a free action. I'm describing it as a "long dagger" because that's how I envision it, but mechanically, it's a short sword. And she uses it because she can't get sneak attack from a longsword. Abby will train in Rapier with her level 2 feat so I can stop this "draw and sheathe" nonsense. :)

Hope that clears everything up, and sorry about the confusion. It's been awhile since I've PbP'ed, and it's my first 4e PbP, which is definitely a bit more movement intensive than I'm used to. :) [/sblock]

[sblock=Wik]Nice move! Here I was, annoyed with myself for not taking a risk and moving onto the B-rank to give Abigail CA.[/sblock]

And thanks for the bonus to hit! I didn't see it hte first time, so I forgot to post my move from Luring Strike! Things are beginning to look a bit more up for us![/sblock]

So, who is blowing the daily for this fight? I know Abi's is one that works better if it's used at the start of the fight, but I'll blow it if it'll help. Unless someone has something better....[/sblock]

Shocked by Abigail's rapid advance, the archer she marked earlier takes a step back and looses an arrow at her, hitting her solidly.

The next archer over likewise steps back, but continues shooting at Alastair, scoring another hit.

The final archer, intent on his quarry, looses another shot at Alastair. It hits, but Eraden takes a shot at him.

The goblin advances on Talks-to-the-Moon, and stabs forward with his short sword, cutting into her.

The enraged swordsman takes another swing at Abigail. Grievously wounded, she drops to the ground.

The spellcaster steps away from Eraden, and again casts her spell, filling the air around Eraden with whirling blades of pure force, which bite into him as though he wore no armor at all.

Finally, the mercenary leader steps gingerly past Dante, and strikes at Eraden with his sword. He misses. Someone had to.

[sblock=terrain features]* The big pit filled with fish (the light green area labeled "fish" is challenging terrain. Make a DC 15 Acrobatics or Athletics roll or fall prone whenever you take a move action which moves you on to a square of terrain (you don't have to roll for each square, only once per round).

* The conveniently labeled catwalks along the side are a different sort of challenging terrain. If you have a hand free, you can move normally along them. Otherwise it's a DC 20 Acrobatics roll to avoid falling flat on the fish.

* The big boxes provide cover. They provide superior cover (& concealment) for people prone behind them, or for small characters. They can be moved (DC 15 Athletics roll to push, DC 20 to pull or slide). Also, for an extra square of movement, you can jump up on top of one.

* The curtains provide superior cover. It's one extra square of movement to go through.[/sblock][sblock=actions]Archer #1 - Move: shift to E21, Standard: shortbow vs. Abigail:(1d20+8=27)--5 damage

[sblock=ooc]I'd originally made a mistake about Abigail's position, which is why Archer #3 didn't move. I figured I'd let it stand. Please check to see if I made any mistakes.[/sblock]

[sblock=ben]Everything looks peachy to me. Except for the whole "Abby dying" thing. :)
[/sblock]

Abby gets slashed across the chest. She looks down at the crimson blotch spreading across her abdomen, and looks up at the mercenary swordsman with large eyes, the flames having suddenly died down. "But... but..." she sputters, before falling to her knees. Her sword drops from her grasp, and she falls flat on her face, her vision swimming as the life bleeds out of her.

[sblock=dying save]
Dying Save #1 (1d20=15)
at least THAT's something[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]
Yikes! Let's hope Abby doesn't croak in her very first combat! Because that would suck. She's already triggered her second wind, so a healing check is only gonna stabilize her - let's clear this room out a bit before giving it a try, and hope for the best![/sblock]
