"We only have three or four miles more to go." Jasper says "We should be there in a few hours at most."
As the group trudges alone through the wet terrain and the rain continues to come down, they pass between some steep hills about an hour later and then end up in a larger clearing. Off to the right, they see some type of run down fortification about 100 feet away.
I wonder what that is? Tana muses. History check to see if she knows anything about the ruins (1d20+12=26)
Tana knows that during the war, a lot of outposts were created in strategic locations. This appears to be one of them. The clearing that the group is in has steep hills or cliffs in all directions with the exception of the path into the area and the path out. It must have been a choke point during the war which would prevent troops from moving either towards or away from the river from the outlying area. The outpost would have been ideally placed to attack anyone attempting to use the trail.
"I'm probably inviting doom by mentioning it, but that fort is pretty well positioned to attack anyone trying to use this trail." Tana said. She was probably being paranoid, but she examined the fortification as closely as she could from the trail. Perception check to look around (1d20+2=18)

"There doesn't appear to be any way around it. It's also unlikely we could avoid detection given the terrain around the outpost. Our only choices appear to be push on ahead or turn back."
