Adventure: Fire and Ice

The hyena situation seeming under control, Hadrak turns his attention on the betrayer. What lowly scum breaks a truce!? There was a special place in Abysss for such foul creature. He walks boldy toward the fiend and calls him out.

-''Hey, you pathetic waste of soul! It's time I gave you a piece of my mind, courtesy of the Great Forger!''

Hadrak then unleashes his most powerful torrent of divine energy yet, seriously hurting the gnoll.

[sblock=ooc] LOL, ryryguy, I think you're confusing players/characters. I am playing as Crag. JR Young is playing as Skalisss. Either way, yeah, I'm not so happy with the defendability of the Warden so far... This may change with a few levels, but Warden's Grasp is kinda weak. I shoulda played as a fighter *le sigh* Warden's Fury isn't even that great... a free swipe at the enemy... yay... even though they DO grant combat advantage if I hit them with it, it's not that great. Maybe I'm just not very good at playing as a warden, but I'm finding that all the uber hit points won't matter unless I can actually get the enemies to attack me, lol. [/sblock]

Crag swings his sword at the hyena in front of him, but the blow is ducked. Crag then slides his bulk to the side and begins raising thin sheets of rock in front of his enemies, trying to distract them and make them focus on him.

"Come on you cowardly LOSERS! HIT ME!"

[sblock=Actions]
- Standard: Uses Strength of Earth of Hyena 4, but misses big time.
- Move: Shift sw one square to H9.
- Free: Mark whichever hyena that Skaliss has NOT marked (or both if he's marked neither).

[sblock=Crag's Stats]
Crag, Warforged Warden 1

Passive Insight: 10
AC 20, Fort 16, Reflex 12, Will 12
HP: 42/42 + 5 Temp HP Bloodied: 21 S.Value: 10 Surges: 13/14

Action Points: 1 Second Wind: Not used

Current Conditions: None

Powers:

Warden's Fury, Warden's Grasp, Strength of Stone, Thorn Strike
Earth Spikes, Warforged Resolve
Form of the Willow Sentinel

Note on Warden's Fury and Warden's Grasp:

Warden's Fury gives me a free attack against any of my marked foes adjacent to me that attack any of my allies (as an Immediate Interupt). If it hits, it does my normal basic attack damage, but it also makes the target grant combat advantage until the end of my next turn.

Warden's Grasp lets me slide any of my marked foes within 5 squares of me that attack any of my allies. The slide is one square and it also slows them and doesn't allow them to shift until the end of it's turn (this is an Immediate Reaction).

[sblock=ooc]About time that gnoll missed!
No worries Kalidrev... actually Hyena 4 should be taking your divine challenge damage for attacking Ingot. Also Crag has Hyena 1 marked, though again I guess it's out of melee range, he can do the Warden's Grasp thingie on it for whatever that's worth.

renau1g, how can we get up onto that wall to go after the gnoll, are there stairs or anything?

also I'm worried the gnoll will try to flee when we finish the hyenas... though I'm not sure what we can do about it.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]
You can make an athletics check to jump up. Otherwise there will be a ladder at the north end of the map (beside the doors) and on the south end (next to the doors there as well) that can be climbed without athletics. It takes 2 squares for every 5 ft, so it takes 4 squares to ascend the ladder, or if you athletics it, it only takes 2. DC is 18

Warden's are not particularly sticky, that's true. They can be easily avoided by a shift/charge manuever from enemies. Their real strength is in their dailies (from what I've seen). Sudden roots helps their stickiness, but overall I find them the worst at forcing the enemy to focus on them (at least in a battle like this). They have one of the best abilities in the game though (Font of Life), boatloads of HP, and cool abilities. I mean I love thorn strike, it could allow you to pull Yanni off the wall and free marking is always good.

[SBLOCK=OOC]Skalisss put his Divine Challenge on Hyena4, this replaced Craig's mark. Hyena4 would know the reprecussion, so Renau1g you could change the action. Otherwise Hyena4 takes 7 points of damage.

Kalidrev, Warden's fury isn't that bad. An opportunity attack and granting combat advantage to all of us: yes please! A rogue would be your best friend. Marking everyone around you every turn is nice. Granted, Warden is not the most sticky defender class, but enemies cannot move around without shifting.

[sblock=ooc] yeah, free marking is awesome, but its pointless unless it actually makes the enemy attack you. I guess the -2 to attack rolls vs everyone else is okay, but I feel pretty useless when those -2's aren't doing enough to keep a friend from being hurt. Maybe it's just this battle that's getting me down. Thorn strike is pretty good, and the dailies are okay, though I think I will be retraining mine when I level up. I can't really keep any enemies close enough to get any use out of my Daily's Encounter power... So I think I'm going to switch to a different one and just reflavor it. [/sblock]

[sblock=Warden]A Warden who was briefly in my pen & paper game was talking about getting a reach weapon to make Warden's Fury more effective. Still not uber sticky, but it would have helped in this situation, you could have potentially finished off that one hyena before it hit Ingot.

Also, yeah, Thorn Whip that gnoll off the wall next round, if you can![/sblock]
Ingot steps forward, into Skalisss' protective zone and a flanking position on one of the hyenas. Once more it swings its long blade, calling again on Vulkar's power to guide an ally's strike. The strike barely connects, drawing a thin line of blood across the beast's chest, but it is enough, and Vulkar's hammer appears in Skalisss' vision, showing him where to strike.

Ingot again prays to Vulkar. "Great Forger, repair me now so that I may fight on and defeat these cowardly enemies..." The god answers the warforged's call, as its severed cords knit together, the dents pop out of its plating, and even the dirt and hyena blood spatters evaporate from its armor. Ingot appears good as new, and its eyes flare brightly once more.

[sblock=Actions]Move: Shift NE to H11
Standard: Righteous Brand vs. Hyena 4 hits AC 16 (barely!) for 6 damage... if the Divine Challenge did go off on this beast, that leaves him with 7 hp. +4 power bonus to Skalisss' next melee attack on the hyena! FINISH HIM! :devil:
Minor: Last Healing Word on Ingot: (1d6+3+6=15) Max heal! Yeah! Thank you, Vulkar! Ingot is fully healed once more...

Hyena 4 would still have attacked Ingot, following Yanni's lead so it takes 7 damage

Just need Skaliss' actions.

Dorn steps cautiously backwards. As he readies his attack, he is distracted by the snarling beasts and can't seem to pull the requisite energies out of himself

With a flourish Skalisss goes for the kill shot on the Hyena."For the Sea King!" the dragonborn shouts as his blade cuts halfway into the hyena's neck and leaves the creature on the ground, unmoving.

The remaining hyena looks to Yanni for guidance, the huntsman points at the cleric in front of him, then once the hyena moves to engage, the gnoll jumps over the wall and disappears from view.
