Adventure: Hey! That's Not Wayne's Basement! (DM: H.M.Gimlord, Judge: Ozymandias79)

After witnessing the strange changes once they entered the basement, Talon knew that something magical was happening here. Whether it was a magic of nature, gods, or men he was not yet sure. Kneeling down on one knee, Talon ran one hand over Dayna's neck while placing the other hand on the floor of the cellar. Magic was a part of the world, and he had felt and tracked its presence before. Closing his eyes, he reached out with all his senses to follow the threads of reality and look for the strands of magic woven into the tapestry...

ooc: If we succeeded, could you wait a little with giving the XP? I haven't approved yet for 2nd level (but would have with my 1st level scores).

I'm sorry for putting this in a spoiler, but Theroc's comment on Jimi Hendrix made me cautious....

The answers I give - regardless of successes or failure - will depend on where you are when you make your check. Look at the map above and give me the coordinates from which your character makes his check.

BTW. I gave up on Battlemat. Not enough documentation on how to run it, and I don' t want to tie up the discussion thread with my questions about it.

I'm planning on handing out XP at the extended rests. Trust me. I think you've got some time ;).

[sblock=ooc]from the description, and if you mean me, I say G 13.

"...to be sagging along the wall behind the huge casks at the back of the room..."[/sblock]

[sblock=Talon location]Woops, forgot to put Talon somewhere. I guess he would search for Arcana from E4(with Dayna beside him at E3). That way he can try and focus on the stairs they came down into the cellar from (since there was presumably magic involved there) and hopefully some of the center of the room including at least the table/desk at the bottom of the cellar stairs.[/sblock]

Fenwick makes his way down to the basement, disappointed that he's being discouraged from interacting with the people upstairs. The others seem to be gathered about the huge cask at the bottom of the stairs, scratching their heads.

Rujah also notices the convening of the other three and joins them a the large cask in the back of the cellar.

[sblock=Jin]Failure - Nature: You sample some of the wine from a cask - let's say it's the one at E11-F13 - at the back of the room. It's been a curiously good season for this particular vintage, but the experience offers little in the way of infromation. Riardon emerges from the gap between the casks to your right, wrinkling his nose and looking as if someone just farted. He politely acknowledges you, looking somewhat embarrassed, and turns toward the cask by the staircase, where Talon is scratching Dyana's head contemplatively, staring at the cask.[/sblock]

[sblock=Riardon]Success - Perception: You pound on the back wall to no avail, but you notice a smell that is out of character for a wine cellar. It's faint, but you don' t need Talon's nose to pick up the scent. It's the odor of sewage. Not so overpowering that it would ruin the food and wind, but if you turn your head just right...

You follow the direction of the smell until it leads you to the cask on the far right. When you look up, you realize that Talon has beat you there, following his own invisible trail. Looking at the cask, it appears that someone has fastened large hinges to the right-hand side of the barrel lid.[/sblock]

[sblock=Talon] Success Arcana: The cellar door, now open, shows only a trace of the magic that brought you here, but it is obvious that it was much stronger only moments before. You touch the floor, and your eyes dim. At first the sensation surprises you, but then you are comforted by an encouraging presence. A voice touches your mind, "Finally, someone with a little courage. I'll show you where I've been."

Light now seems to dapple the floor in splotches here and there, but this light seems to emanate from the floor, and not from the sconces. It collects in streams like quicksilver and coalesces into specific locations, forming a trail of magical energy leading to the last of the huge casks at the back of the room.

As you stand in front of the cask, Riardon approaches you, sniffing the air as if he has a cold. It's then that you realize the smell of sewage seeping through the timbers of the cask in front of you. [/sblock]

Success!
You seem to have found a secret door!

Awe Heck! Talon's search completes the skill challenge with success, so who cares about where you are!

6 Successes
2 Failures

XP will be awarded at extended rests. For which you have no need at this time;). [/sblock]

Rujah notes the rest of the group moving and moves to their location, noting the discovery. "That hardly seems appropriate for a winery... or a brewery... either way, who would want waste in their beverage?" He commented, before attempting to open the door and look inside. "We should investigate, no?" He added, pausing to give any others a moment to stop him before he proceeded through the door, cautious and weapon ready.

Jin moves next to Rujah. "I am guessing our mystery man is inside. Do you want point, or do you want me to take point?"

Jin pulled out his sunrod again, ready to activate it if needed, uncertain of the lighting ahead.

[sblock=OOC,all,HM]
All: BOOYAH! Good Job guys!

HM: Regardless of how the team decides to proceed, i'll be immediately in-front of, next to, or just behind Rujah. Whether Theroc likes it or not, Jin feels normal fighting aside a Dragonborn. And this is the first normal he has felt in a long time...

Jin is carrying a katana in his normal hand, and a sunrod in his off hand. If it's fair light and Jin is on point, he'll put the sunrod away. Otherwise, he'll continue to carry the sunrod in his off hand, just in case.

Talon follows the trail before finding the secret door just before Riardon. "Voice of magic said it went this way." Talon points from the cellar doors over here to the cask. Wrinkling his nose in irritation, the shifter comments, "Wine gone bad?" before reaching for something in his belt pouch. He scrapes some half hardened tree sap from the container and rubs it on his upper lip before kneeling and applying some just below Dayna's nose as well. "Help make bad smell go away." he explains after noticing the inquiring looks he receives. Proffering the small container, Talon seems willing to share the sap with anyone who wants a little.
