Round 4: Baldwin’s Ambush

[sblock=Previous Rounds]Round 1 & HERE
Round 2
Round 3[/sblock]

"Careful all! He is signaling to more of them, underground," Rikka snarled. She lashed out with one paw, again slapping the larger wererat away from her, then darted off through the rubble.

Stepping through the still flying swarm of insects, the elf leveled his crossbow and let fly a small bolt. The projectile buzzed angrily past Braddock before striking the wererat preoccupied with the newly arrived dwarven paladin. The wound proved fatal, dropping the monster to the ground, fletching still quivering in its neck. With a flash of movement, Kellindil reloaded his crossbow and stepped toward the brute; providing Quan Reah a distraction for his attack.
[sblock=Kellindil]Remember to subtract 1 HS from Orsik’s Rune of Mending. You should have 5/6[/sblock]

Braddock glances over his shoulder as the bolt fells the half dead wererat. "Nice shot ...for an elf." He then holds his hammer forward, "Aye Lord of Nature, I hear your call. Help me smite these vermin." The craghammers faint aura changes from golden to dark green. With a primal yell, Braddock smashes the hammer into his new prey, "Ye messed with the wrong bunch, ye know!" He then moves to position himself better to attack either of the wererats closer to him.
[sblock=Braddock]Don’t worry, it’s just the GM cheatin’ is all. =P. Fixed. It’s at 55/55 minus your 17dmg +5 regeneration, so 43/55.[/sblock]

Ulrick winces as he turns to see the wererat at his back drops lifeless. ”Me thanks, elf…Watch out behind you.” Ulrick shouts. Turning to Orsik, the dwarf says, ”I’m comin’. And the name’s Ulrick, Paladin of Onatar.” With that, Ulrick stomps over to the wererat and the goliath. The dwarf paladin briefly touches the wounded goliath with his glowing shield-hand, allowing Onatar’s blessing to flow into Orsik, healing some of his wounds, and then turns and swings his craghammer at the rodent-man. ”Feel Onatar’s might foul were-beast!”

The swarm coalesces into the form of Quan again and he seems sobered by the experience. Swinging arms and legs in smooth spins, he covers the nearby brute with a flurry of strikes before tumbling back behind a ruined wall. Then he speaks for the first time “Do you think his daughter is a wererat too?” given doubt to his sobriety.

Orsik slams his maul into the wererat and prepares the maul to swing again if it moves, while red runes flare on the weapon.
[sblock=Orsik]Ulrick had his Divine Challenge on wererat 2. If the wererat attacked you (at -2 to hit) it would have taken damage, and you still could have moved to intercept Baldwin.[/sblock]

The remaining wererats all seem to wince and shake a little bit as their lycanthropic disease start to speed their healing unnaturally (all regenerate 5 hit points, except the minion).

The last remaining wererat minion sees the black-streak-that-is-Rikka bolt from around the corner and exits the warehouse. It steps forward, raises its crossbow and fires at the fast moving feline, piercing the cat’s side. Bolt spent, the wererat minion flings the crossbow, and then draws its short sword.

The wererat spins to the divine dwarf, as if compelled, and delivers a vicious backhand swipe with its short sword, but Ulrick easily deflects the attack.

The wererat sees the Brute shifting over to snap at the rogue elf, and takes advantage of its ally to swing its short sword at the warlock dwarf that has been causing it so much pain. The dwarf is able to deflect the sword with his hammer, missing the shadowy dwarf.

The wererat brute watches the elf-cat sprint around the corner, so it goes the opposite direction. It spots the elf-cat behind the warehouse ruins and charges, greataxe raised over its head.

The brute takes the attack from the monk, but Quan moves out of his range before the wererat can retaliate. It steps to its left, keeping the wall between it and the monk, and then it turns its attention once again to the elf rogue, snapping with a vicious bite. Again the agile rogue dodges the attack.

Baldwin’s voice can be heard over the sounds of combat emanating from the ruined warehouse. ”Incompetents! I said KILL them!” He then decides that this ambush is a failure. ”Meet back at the temple!”, and he runs away to the west, and is soon lost among the ruined buildings.

Quan finds himself still alone and look around quizzically. A decision seems evident on his face and he takes off at great speed out of the ruins. Making a quick turn outside he comes upon the back of the unbloodied brute and executes a speedy flying kick at it. As the kick misses, he lands sharply on his back and bursts into a swarm of insects adjacent to the rat-man.

"Tricksy, tricksy, little rat," Braddock blocks the blow and moves away from the lumbering brute of a rat. After seeing the little wererat shoot the feline, he focuses his ire on it before turning toward the brute again.

Braddock's eyes flare with green light and eldritch energy blasts from the craghammer, but it fails to damage the brute.

Despite the foe close at hand, Rikka heard the lead wererat's call. "Do we want him?" she snarled, loud enough for her compatriots to hear.

[sblock= OOC]
>Where did Baldwin start his turn? Where did he leave the map? What direction was he going?
>Rikka can boost her speed to 12, if we want to chase him- thoughts?

[/sblock]

GM: [MENTION=48394]pathfinderq1[/MENTION]: Baldwin was at T12 and ran due west (i.e. to the right) and has speed 6. He double-moved so 8(run)+6(move)=14 squares. I assume a straight line of movement would put him AI-12 (11 squares off the map).

[sblock= OOC]
To GM: How important to the plot is it for Baldwin to get away? I'm inclined to have Rikka chase him- with her Perception and Speed 12 she should be able to catch him (by end of next round, most likely), or at least follow him to his destination. But that would use one of her utility daily powers- and I don't want to derail the plot by chasing him if he is 'supposed' to escape.

Any advice?
