[Adventure] Hysteria's Ascendency (Judge: Stonegod)

With nary a word, Kellindil buries his blade hilt-deep in one of the remaining wererats, ending it's life. He then moves closer to the last beast, leveling the small crossbow he carries in his right hand.

GM: [MENTION=88601]FourMonos[/MENTION]: oh, that's math huh?! You're correct. I'll edit the last round.

Everyone: Encounter over. Those that need healing can get it. Let me know how many surges everyone used. You can now roleplay until I can get the next part written up.

Braddock, Orsik and Ulrick all have Filth Fever. Don't forget to make your rolls (see sblock).

NOTE: my friend's comp is down! I've been all excited to get him playing and for one reason or another, he hasn't been able to post! Aargh! He said it should be up and running tonight (fingers crossed). Since he's part of the story AND the party I want him to be included in on the dialog/roleplaying (warning: this is his first PbP and he's not sblock-savvy).

[sblock=Filth Fever]At the end of the encounter, those afflicted by Filth Fever must make a check to see if the disease stabilizes (or improve)
Stabilizes: Endurance check DC 14
Improves: Endurance check DC 21

Stage 0: cured
Initial Stage: target loses 1 healing surge
Stage 2: target takes a -2 penalty to AC, Fortitude and Reflex
Stage 3: target takes an additional -2 penalty to AC, Fortitude, and Reflex and loses all healing surges and cannot regain hit points.[/sblock]

Quan: 3750*+505=4255 XP
Orsik: 9337*+505=9842 XP

*NOTE: These XP totals were taken from your wiki pages.

[sblock=Time XP/gp]Hasn't been a month yet so I'll hold off on this for right now.[/sblock][/sblock]

[sblock=Trapdoor] Trapdoor: (Q6): sturdy enough to stand on; Locked/Barred from the inside; Thievery check DC 14 to open; Attack (20hp; AC/FORT/REF/WILL 5) Can be slid open, but not pushed. [/sblock]

[sblock=Streetwise DC 14 (trained only)]You know that there is a nearby apothecary, a gnome named Eldon, that regularly makes potions for those in need as well as maintaining an number of common potions on hand.[sblock=Streetwise 21+]You also know that Eldon is a local fence for stolen magical items. His shop was recently burglarized, possibly related to Baldwin and his wererats. Eldon may be persuaded to reward some gold for any information leading to the return of his missing items as well as capturing the criminals involved.[/sblock][/sblock]

[sblock=Religion DC 14 (trained only)]You know that the real Jorasco guild house is nearby and can perform rituals to stave off any diseases, but at a cost (i.e. Filth Fever).
[sblock=Religion 21+]You know that the leaders of House Jorasco would be mortified to hear that a group claiming affiliation with House Jorasco were really waylaying helpless citizens and may even cure anyone afflicted by Filth Fever or even possibly reward anyone who stopped that group.[/sblock] [/sblock]

Quan reforms from the swarm looking a bit thirsty.

OOC: What does runepriest do to boost healing during a short rest? 3 surges should get me to full exactly.

[sblock=Streetwise check]Any word on the streets about this Baldwin guy and/or the wererat gang? 1d20+9=28

InvisibleCaste decided to take a crap after I rolled this. The check for the sblocks in jsb420's post is below.[/sblock]

Kellindil holsters the hand crossbow and sheathes his sword after the last wererat falls. Now that he was a part of this betrayal, he would see it to its, ultimately, grisly end. He'd have this Baldwin fool splayed out on the floor, gasping his last breath for forgiveness.

He disappears into an alleyway without a word.

Dropping a few coins in the right hands, the elf quickly learns about a local fence who's been robbed and how the wererat gang might be connected to the deed. Within minutes, he returns to the group as they're milling about. Kellindil relays the information quietly.

"Apparently, some gnome named Eldon has been burglarized lately, and these fools--" he gestures to the dead lycanthropes "--may be responsible for the job. We can check it out. Or we can see what's down below this place."

He pulls the cowl of his cloak over his head. "As long as someone can answer a few of my...questions, I don't care which we do."

Braddock checks over the bodies for any information... or useful items. He then greets Ulrick with a stout handshake.

[sblock=dwarven] Oye, ye really saved our bones there. May your keg never go dry! Well done, well done now. Braddock Hallstormer, formerly of the Iron Gatekeepers. Now more of a traveling scholar. Me old mates named me Braddock the Historian... at yer service. [/sblock]

He eyes the trapdoor, "Aye, I could get us through that, lickitysplit. Just say the word."

The fever that flared after the wererat bite calms down, whatever pathogens quickly cleared by his sturdy dwarven stamina.

[sblock=filth fever] endurance check: 1d20+9 → [14,9] = (23) Roll Lookup . Cured! [/sblock]

"Whoever is down there, they know we're coming. I don't think he had time to signal more than that," Rikka growled as she watched the trapdoor.

[FONT=&quot][sblock=Kellindil]Streetwise check result: You remember hearing something about a new band of thieves here in Cliffside, but as to a leader, no word as of yet. So far they haven't crossed your path so you paid little attention to the rumor at the time.

Baldwin did say something about some halfling named Jessup and blood and magic items. If Baldwin is in league with this Jessup person, you can bet he is a wererat as well.[/sblock][/FONT]

OOC: Spend one surge to get to 50/53. [MENTION=6671055]horticulture[/MENTION], will you re-post XP awards at the end of the adventure or we need to track that last post of yours. Also, how often do we need to roll against Filth Fever?

"Is anyone infected by their bites? There is Jorasco house nearby? Altough it seems it's getting no worse."
