MetaVoid: I think you're getting two adventures crossed (Horticulture is GMing Dusk and Her Embrace, I'm playing in that one too ). I'll post the XP awarded in a special sblock in the OP (I'll also track any pooled treasure).
Rolls for Filth Fever are only at the end of an encounter; either to stabilize (don't get better or worse) or to improve (improve your condition, possibly get cured).
[sblock=treasure]Searching the bodies of the wererats (now reverted back to the humanoid forms - human, half-elf, elf mix), you find a variety of odds and ends and personal items (a lucky dagger, a set of elven knucklebone dice, one pair of lady's silken undergarments, a locket (25gp), a mismatched set of thieves' tools, and loose coin (175gp total), no identification papers or travel papers.)[/sblock]
Quan seems to be grabby as his scoops up some of the odds and ends along with coins from the fallen were-men. He seems particularly fond of the lady's underwear.
After finishing off the wererats and searching their bodies, everyone gathers to decide what to do next. Once you’re close enough (and not fighting rat-men), you can tell that Ulrick appears more insubstantial, less solid than you thought. Once gathered Ulrick begins to tell his story.
” My thanks for defeating these rat-men. Now listen close because I don’t have much time. My name’s Ulrick Stormhammer, Paladin of Onatar. My temple, The Pool of Onatar’s Tears in the Cogs, was burglarized.” As he speaks you can see that he is already starting to lose what little physical form he has left.
”Our most holy relic, Onatar’s Forge, was stolen two days ago, for what purpose, I know not. The guard on duty that night was my younger cousin, Fredrick. Baldwin butchered him, and then performed a foul rite to steal Fredrick’s blood. Only by communing with his spirit were we allowed figure out it was Baldwin. The temple’s mages and clerics were able to find an obscure ritual allowing them to send one champion – me – to face off with Baldwin, the thief.” Ulrick’s legs are now completely dissipated; his torso is next to dissipate.
”I will continue to harry Baldwin until one of us is dead. Please, hunt this thief down and when you’re finished and have either captured or killed Baldwin return to my temple in the Cogs with Onatar’s Anvil, and they will reward you handsomely.”
Just as he fades completely away, his voice calls out, ”Be vigilant, my friends. Our paths may cross yet again!” Only white colored motes of light remain, until they too fade from sight, leaving no trace of Ulrick.
GM:
Sadly my friend is choosing to step away until a time when he can spend more time playing, so I’m writing him out so the adventure can continue.
It’s up to you if you want to find a replacement, or continue as a group of 5.
Decide where you want to go from here: The trapdoor, follow a lead and go to Eldon’s Potion Shop, or go to the local House Jorasco chapter house.
Well, I'm sorry your friend isn't able to join us jsb. But enworld is always accepting new people, so he's always welcome should he change his mind down the road.
As for the group composition, I'd like to have one defender in the mix if that is okay with everyone else. It sure would make Metavoid's job easier. Both Voda Vosa and cleverusername have defenders in the tavern.
I'm fine with both solutions. Defender would be welcome, but not neccessary as we're mostly melee party, we can flank and throw each other bonuses or cover for one another...it would be harder without defender with ranged party. And with five it goes faster.
I'd like a defender, as well. And, as FourMonos stated, there are two people waiting in the tavern with defenders.
As for where we should go: I would say head to the temple to get those still afflicted with Filth Fever cured. Kellindil would say head to the potion shop, however.
I'm already down 3 surges, yay defender. Can we actually RP in the Tavern, perhaps send someone in IC rather than DM deus ex machina? Pause is okay.
Quan idles a bit. I can go back to the tavern if we want another sixth, maybe I can buy a fifth while I'm there. Then we get get ours from them that's downstairs.
