(Adventure) Slaying the Dreamer [Judge: Uriel]

You sneak to the front door, take a deep breath and step inside. The room is quite like Janos had shown you, with an opening on your right probably leading to the guardpost. The fountain is some masterpiece. It consists of three layers, the lowest layer shows humanoids: elves, humans, halfling, all kneeling. Above them are three beings that seem very powerful. All winged creatures, they are larger than the humanoids beneath them they carry weapons. They too kneel. And on top is one man. He looks like a wizard: he wears the same kind of robes Janos wears, he holds a staff with a skull (which looks frightingly real) in one hand and a purple glowing orb floats above his other. He stands there, arms spread, looking down with a a trimphant smile. Obviously, this man thought himself pretty powerful.

As you move away from the opening and hide behind the fountain, you look into the guardpost. There is another human sitting there in leather armor, glowing sword behind him, on a simple wooden chair in front of a simple wooden table. Two other humans stand on the other side of the table, wearing but simple clothing, but also wearing longswords. They are talking in a language you don't understand but they are quite excited and you detect a hint of fear in their voices...

For now, Jack stays hidden behind the south side of the fountain out of sight from any of the doorways or hallways that open into the atrium. While he's waiting for the guard outside to return, he does, however, take a good look around the room looking for a better hiding place. He checks the northwest corner in particular, which is within earshot of both the front door and the guard room. He even considers climbing up onto the fountain and kneeling amongst the figures on the lowest tier covered by his greyish traveling cloak.

Jack keeps an ear to the conversation in the next room, though he can't understand it. Perhaps he can at least determine the language or dialect spoken.

Hide +12, Move Silently +10, Listen +8.

Fant holds her breath as Jack makes for the door. The sneak theif is braver than I took him for, she thinks. She peers around a tree, keeping all but the top of her head hidden, ready to charge out if needed.

ooc: Fant has a hide of -4, mitigated by distance and, one hopes, 9/10 cover. How far away are we again?

Quickwhip, seeing the thief/rogue/whatever, make his way into the house, and shakes his head.

"We should be spearheading this, not him." Spying the one guard outside, Quickwhip's hand sems to ich towards his blade. "Should be give the other guards reason to come out also? It may give the little man the time he needs to move further in." He motions to the one guard and adds "I think we can take him and bind him befor ethe others respond. What say you?"

Fant shakes her head. "Too risky, especially considering the original idea was to simply listen to the password. No plan survives first contact with the enemy, but I think attacking obviously now is an escalation we don't want to make until we're better prepared."

"Damn, i was afraid you'd see it that way!" The young fighter does not seem happy with the comment, but more then willing to follow the woman's suggestion as he starts to pace once more.

"I'm bored... and want to get this on, my it please the goddess!" he says continuing to look towards the manor.

OOC: Don't worry... Though I came up with it on the spur of the moment, I DO have a plan. For the record... Where are you guys hiding in the woods? I figure we were somewhere in front of the house, but uncertain as to exactly where. It could make a small difference.

If Janos is up to posting a little bit more frequently this evening, we might be able to get through this part a little more quickly, since you guys are mostly waiting on me.

And Janos... A question, if you'll answer it... Is it safe to assume that the Alarms will only trigger from the outside? Meaning, while you wouldn't be able to approach the door within 20' from outside, it only makes sense that you should be able to get close from inside... One wouldn't want to set off an Alarm simply by walking into a room or down a hallway, correct?

The room Jack sees is empty, except for the wonderous fountain. The second guard, after having checked the window, moves back inside. He closes the door behind him, walks into the guard room, puts his sword on the table and says:

"Geen idee wat het was, maar het raam is gebarsten. Het is gelukkig niet die gestoorde tovenaar. Moeten we dit melden?"

"Neuh, dat doen we morgen wel. Je weet hoe ie is als ie 's avonds gestoord wordt."

"Ja, da's waar. Maar de volgende keer ga jij naar buiten, lamme zak!"

The guards laugh, relieved, but they stay to chat anyway.

[It's evening for me right now. 22:28. I'll be awake for another hour or so...]

[edit]I have a reception in my student union...I'll probably update once more today...:S I wanna update once a day at least, but yesterday I waited because I wanted to give other people a chance to post...[/edit]

"On the plus side, once we actually attack it should go quickly," Fant says by way of assurance. "Look at him- fearful and, by the looks of it, ill equiped- unless that sword does more than glow. I expect we'll get past the guards easily enough, and all the more so if they surrender or flee like I think they will after the first few blows."
