[Adventure] The Paper Chase (Judge: renau1g)

[sblock=OOC]Standing Up - can't find a ruling for this anywhere. If someone can help me out, great, otherwise I'll rule that it's a minor action to stand from a chair. So Mythra didn't need to Fey Step.

Ire Strike - This only works on adjacent allies. In the interests of speed I've moved Serris adjacent to Baracus.[/sblock]

Baracus saw the way things were shaking down and knew that there was only one way to deal with this kind of creature. He'd seen it too often in Lhazaar Principalities, this ogre was just a bully and needed to be shown who was boss. Without a word, Baracus sucker punches the larger creature, the force of the blow and suddenness of the attack sending the ogre to the bar floor. With the monster down, Baracus tries to jump onto it, hoping to pin it to the floor with his tremendous strength.

"I got this one, you guys make sure no suckas try and jump me from behind" he grunts.

"Give him another!" Says Serris, inspiration flowing to Baracus.

At Serris' words, Baracus laughs and with his free left hand punches the ogre in the kidneys.

Seeing the Ogre taken care of, Mythra stands and moves to a nearby space. He than summon a spray of color from his finguretips hitting the Ogre's minions, as well as any tavern patrons caught in the blast. Most are sub-Eladrin species after all.

He does not use full power however, someone in the party might complain at killing "innocent people".

Up to this point, the tavern has been in stunned silence, patrons gaping open-mouthed as Baracus drops the Ogre to the floor with a single punch and shows every sign of overpowering him entirely. With Mythra's indiscriminate psychedelic onslaught, though, all hell breaks loose. Half-blinded and confused, patrons stumble into each other, shouting and lashing out blindly. The crash of broken glass rings out over the din, and in moments a full-scale brawl is in progress as the tavern's customers pick up bottles, mugs, chairs, tables, or whatever other weapons might be to hand and lay into each other with reckless abandon. Most of the room becomes a churning mass of bloody, flailing lowlives.

Across the room, the harpy is visible swiftly hopping up onto a table, perched above the melee for the timebeing. From there she begins to sing in an ululating wail. The thin unearthly sound piercing easily through the racket of combat and merging with the insane drumbeats to create a truly disturbing experience. The song is charged with a strange compulsion, and of our heroes only Mythra is able to shake off its bewitching power. All the others are drawn as if sleepwalking towards the harpy, most of them blundering obliviously into the midst of the fray.

As Baracus wanders off in a daze, the ogre finds himself free to stand up, and does so with an incoherent roar of rage. "You! You PAY for that, you hear? NOBODY is walk away from hitting me. NOBODY!"

His sights remain set on Baracus, but finding himself temporarily out of reach he satisfies his immediate desire for carnage by aiming an arcing smash of his weighty club at Orsik, who is conveniently nearby. The colossal hunk of wood crashes squarely into Orsik's midriff with the power of a charging bull, but to the ogre's evident dismay the Runepriest weathers the blow and stays on his feet.

Meanwhile, the ogre's four human companions slip through the chaotic melee with practised skill to execute flanking assaults on Baracus and kal'Tarron. Baracus is able to avoid their attacks without too much trouble, but kal'Tarron takes a glancing mace blow from a lanky girl with dirty blond hair. She gives a little shout of triumph and spits at his feet as he reels, dazed from the attack.

[sblock=OOC - Enemy Actions]The Harpy starts its turn in a square with brawling patrons and takes 1d6+4=8 damage shifts one square north and uses Alluring Song as a standard action, catching all the players within its burst.

Mythra - 1d20=2+? = miss vs Will
Baracus - 1d20=15+? = hit vs Will
Grys - 1d20=18+? = hit vs Will
kal'Tarron - 1d20=15+?=hit vs Will
Orsik - 1d20=13+?=hit vs Will
Serris - 1d20=15+?=hit vs Will

Baracus, Grys, kal'Tarron, Orsik and Serris are all pulled 3 squares towards the Harpy and immobilized (save ends). This breaks Baracus's grab on the Ogre.

The Ogre stands from prone and attacks the closest target, Orsik, with its Angry Smash. It gets to roll its attack twice and take the better result. 1d20=13+?=hit vs AC (inluding -2 from Baracus's mark). Damage 2d10+5=17.

Each of the lackeys starts its turn in a square occupied by brawling patrons and takes 1d6+4 damage - respectively 5, 9, 6, 6. This damage is halved by the lackeys' Shifty Brawler ability.

Lackey 1 attacks Baracus with Dazing Strike, flanking with Lackey 3. 1d20=5+? = miss vs AC.

Lackey 2 attacks kal'Tarron with Dazing Strike. 1d20=19+? = hit vs AC for 1d8+1=3 damage, and kal'Tarron is Dazed until the end of Lackey 2's next turn. As part of this attack she shifts to E3, ignoring difficult terrain from the crowd thanks to her Shifty Brawler ability.

Lackey 3 attacks Baracus with Dazing Strike, flanking with Lackey 1. 1d20=9+? = miss vs AC. As part of this attack he shifts to F7, ignoring difficult terrain from the crowd thanks to his Shifty Brawler ability.

Lackey 4 attacks kal'Tarron with her mace, flanking with Lackey 2. 1d20=9+? = miss vs AC.[/sblock]

[sblock=Crowd Damage]Grys, Serris, Baracus and kal'Tarron begin their next turns in squares occupied by brawling patrons, and each take 1d6+4 damage. I've included this in the summary of damage taken below since it's unavoidable at this point.

Baracus - 9
Serris - 8
kal'Tarron - 8
Grys - 10[/sblock]

[sblock=Combatants]Mythra - 38/38 hp
Baracus - 43/52 hp, immobilized (save ends)
Serris - 37/45 hp, immobilized (save ends)
Ogre - 14 damage taken, marked by Baracus
Harpy - 8 damage taken
Lackey 1 - 11 damage taken
Lackey 2 - 5 damage taken
Lackey 3 - 11 damage taken
Lackey 4 - 11 damage taken
Orsik - 26/45 hp, immobilized (save ends)
kal'Tarron - 33/44 hp, immobilized (save ends), dazed TENT
Grys - 29/39 hp, immobilized (save ends)[/sblock]

[sblock=Map]
innmap.jpg

Remember that green blobs are difficult terrain, and will now also cause 1d6+4 damage to anybody beginning their turn in the same square.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Everyone can post actions for next round now. rb780nm, looks like you'll need to alter your post since kal'Tarron is dazed and immobilized at the moment.[/sblock]

RUNESTATE: DESTRUCTION
+1 to hit enemies adjacent to Orsik (ogre)
+2 to damage for any damage roll (rune of mending) - ALL PCs

Orsik grunts as the club hits him and turns ponderously his brow furrowing.
"My turn." he states ominously

He draws a rune over his torso and some blood seeps out of the wounds as they close. Bloodred rune explodes in tinkling shards which hover over his allies for a moment.

He then hefts his hammer and slams it down on the ogre. It sounds as if thunder crashed on the beast. Orsik maintains the grip near the head of his maul ready for quick jab if ogre makes a threatening move.

"How do you like it?"

[sblock=Actions]
Minor: Rune of Mending on self (regain 10 hp, grant everyone +2 damage)
Standard: Symbol of the Wrath Reversed vs Ogre AC (1d20+10=27, 2d6+6+3+2=21) - Ogre's first attack during it's next turn provokes OA from Orsik
OA: OA MBA vs Ogre AC; Damage; Save (1d20+10=27, 2d6+6+2+3=17, 1d20=5) - NOT SAVED, still immobile

21 thunder damage, 17 more if provokes OA

"I don't have time for this." Grys mumbles.

Grys vanishes from his spot and reappears in the middle of the crowd. Flames erupt from his sword. Patrons fall unconscious from the heat of the blaze.

"BEGONE!" Grys yells at the crowd.

"Are you sure you want to continue this Ogre? Is it worth your life?" Grys asks.

[sblock=Actions]
Note: Players appear to be assuming that we have weapons / implements in hand. If Grys has his sword out Antithetist, then Grys will use Aegis of Shielding on the Ogre as his minor action instead of pulling out his sword.

Minor: Pull out sword
Move: Fey Step to C6 (Baracus now has flank)
Standard: Fire Shroud on every non-PC creature in burst 3 (A3 to F3, A9 to F9, that should catch the vast majority of battling patrons attacking the PCs)

Fire Shroud vs. Fort; 28 Harpy, 16 Human 1, 28 Human 2, 26 Human 3, 13 Human 4, 10 damage PLUS 5 Ongoing Fire damage, Save vs. Immobilize 9

If any creature here drops due to Grys' attack, he will only be unconscious, not dead.

Note: I assume that a goodly number of the NPC patrons are minion-like and that Grys will hit a high percentage of them and they will just fall unconscious or will retreat from the flames/heat.

Too bad Mythra and the patrons damaged the foes. Grys would have done 6 extra damage to any undamaged foe. ;)

I did change it to be non-lethal damage. Looks like Mythra started a brawl thought :D[/sblock]

[sblock=Antithetist]
Are some of the human lackeys still dazed from color spray? If so they grant combat advantage.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC - Dazed Lackeys]Right you are. All the lackeys except number 2 grant combat advantage for Orsik, kal'Tarron, Grys and Mythra.[/sblock]

a) I assumed maul out because I don't think it can be carried in a holster
b) @KarinsDad - did you account for +2 to damage from Orsik's Rune of Mending?

No. I didn't know which targets it affected and I didn't have time to look it up.

Who does it affect? All targets?
[/sblock]

kal'Tarron is confused, reeling from the mental and physical ssaults he has taken. With a snarl he lashes out at a nearby enemy, as he has lost track of the enemy he had intended to challenge.

[sblock=action]Attack lackey 4 with Bond of Retr.

Bond of retribution on lackey 4 (with CA), bloodclaw bonus damage, Rune of Mending Bonus damage (1d20+12=30, 1d12+14=26)

Hit against AC 30, does 26 damage. I take 2 damage from bloodclaw

end of turn saving throw (1d20=9)
[/sblock]

kal'Tarron fails to shake off the effects of harpy's song.

[sblock=ooc] If you interpret Bond of Retribution as only working if I've got an oath target, then I'll use avenging echo - it's got that same rolls, but until the end of my next turn, any enemy that ends its turn adjacent to me, or that hits or misses me takes 5+4(int) radiant damage[/sblock]

Serris looks to the nearest foe, uttering a simple "You.." and focused will creates a channel between them.
His pose relaxes, and he begins flowing with the brawling tide.
With a casual gesture he spins his spear, the point ending up in the opposite direction of his obvious challenge.

[sblock=actions]Minor: Battleminds Demand against #4, he is marked.
Move: Feather Step, which ignores difficult terrain.. thematically it could avoid further crowd damage, though I doubt it will.
Standard: Whirling Defense against the Ogre. Spear has reach, and +1 to hit from Orsik. Target is marked if hit, sorry baracus, but you're a bit away.. feel free to overmark when you can.
Save: with a +2 from the Amulet of Physical Resolve.[/sblock]

[sblock=rolls]Whirling Defense vs Ogre +1 for runestate; Damage vs Ogre +2 for runestate; Save vs Immobilize +2 for amulet (1d20+9+1=22, 1d10+4+2=12, 1d20+2=8)[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Home again. Serris couldn't sheath his greatspear if he wanted to. Sorry about the mistarget earlier, but I also neglected to declare a move or a minor action, so it works out.[/sblock]
