[Adventure] The Paper Chase, Part 2 (Judge: renau1g)

ooc: I don't mind investigation.

Alexia fidgets nervously with her rosary, "Umm... no. I rather not ask the priest for directions. Someone else can do that." She sighs, then straightens up, "Look, if the intended recipient of the letter, Howard, was also a professor like Farrow, that would imply that whatever Derslin was doing out here was somehow connected to Howard's field. So, I dunno, maybe some sort of archeological dig? And then there are also these partners. There were a number of people operating near enough to this town to make it the best place to send a letter from, but not so close to make travel safe. Such an operation would need food and supplies. They may have brought their own, but if they spent any significant amount of time out here I'll bet they had to resupply at some point. People eat." She pauses a moment before continuing.

"We should ask the local quartermaster- oh, right, civilians." Alexia smiles apologetically, "I mean, uh, general store, I guess, if anyone was making large purchases. Also, whoever handles the mail here might have seen Derslin. Finally, if the partners left, someone here may have noticed a large number of people moving through town."

OOC: Regarding Martha's report: she can confirm what Grys, Alexia and kal'Tarron saw in any case - that the man spent the trip in their carriage, keeping an eye on them.

Muzdum gave Alexia a side-look. She was holding a rosary, and she didn't want to talk to the priest. What the-? Oh well... Thought the dwarf. It wasn't his damn business anyway. Muzdum's thoughts drifted towards the tavern. "Oi, I'm goin' to the bar, who's wit me?"

"I'll head to the bar with you Muzdum. My expertise is in physical areas of endeavor, not investigative. A drink sounds right just about now."

OOC: PS. Familiars teleport back to their master once they get to their maximum range. That typically is 100 feet.

Cats are one of the few exceptions. They have no range, so Mythra can continue to have his cat tail this guy until Mythra decides otherwise.

For reference's sake, Alexia has a Blood of Vol rosary wrapped around her palm.

I think the cat has an extended range. Heh, half the party has familiars.[/sblock]

Alexia looks surprised at Grys's comment regarding his abilities, "Hmm, well, ask around about the partners if you get the opportunity. I'll go investigate the general store. Meet you at the bar, if I find anything." She smiles crookedly, "Or if I don't."

OOC: I'm fine with a skill challenge - unlike most of my characters, kal'Tarron actually has some usable skills for social/info challenges. I was just trying to speed things along because the travel (and the associated debates) took quite a while.

"If anyone wants to come to the temple with me, that's fine." kal'Tarron turns and stalks off. The first passer-by he asks points him to the Hall of the Sovereign Host.

OOC: He's in a mood. Too long in a small carriage with Mythra ;)

Entering the hall, he looks for a senior priest.

OOC: kal'Tarron's vestments mark him as an avenger. A priest ought to recognise them.

Yeah, Grys is real intelligent and half Wizard, but his trained skills are Athletics, Endurance, Perception, and Stealth. Arcana and History are his highest totals, but they aren't trained. The page of background that I wrote up for him and the server move lost explained it all. I'm still annoyed that I didn't save a copy of that.

Mythra follows the party to the bar, to make sure they stay out of trouble (or at least charge everything on the Professor's tab).

OOC: I guess I'll recall Martha, since we probably won't need to follow the person any more. (plus I already did bring her back IC.

"I'll go to the temple with Kal. Muzdum, you ought to go with Alexia. You can drink later. And Grys, I'm sure you'll enjoy being in the bar alone with Mythra." adds goliath with a trace of humor

"If I can't drink with Muzdum, I'm not going to the bar." Grys says. "I'll go with him and Alexia. You've got Mythra. He should do well at a temple. Maybe they'll teach him some humility." Grys winks.
