Adversity

the Jester

Legend
What do you think about a book primarily of monsters, but also with curses, poisons, traps, diseases, a system for awarding xp for overcoming hostile environments, etc.? Would you be more or less inclined to buy it than a monster book of comparable size and quality?

I'd be about as willing. Depending if the other adversities were as interesting as the monsters. Some good creative curses, poisons (Danish ear-toxin, perhaps?), etc.

Demiurge out.

I'd go for it if it was organised according to Habitat/Terrain type

sort of like the Far Away Places features at the WOTC site

eg say chapters like: Death in the Jungle, the Deadly Forest, Urban Sprawl, Dangers from the Deep, Doom of the Underdark, Terrors of the Desert Sands, the Dark Swamp etc etc etc,

and then your monsters, traps, disease, curses etc designed to fit the 'theme'

I'd actually like a book of "Evil Terrain-Specific Tricks" more than "Yet Another Monster Book".

When you're trying to design evil Human (or Halfling, or Goblin, or whatever) societies, you need cool tricks to keep them the masters of their niche -- otherwise they'd already be extinct, and the PCs wouldn't have anyone to kill.

So, yeah, very interested! -- N
