AFI names Top 10 genre films

Saw part of this on TV the other night. NOW, I would like them to repeat this, but ignore everything before like 1990, or maybe even 1980. Only like 4 movies of the entire list would remain...

Okay, a few more than that. But I don't like how most of them are in the 40s and 50s. I'd never even heard of half the movies that they had in their lists and seen even less. :(

The AFI specifically states they do these lists to get people talking and to see the older movies which are quite good. I've seen a good portion of the list and from my own personal opinion there is not a bad one amongst them. Sure the list may not be sequenced to everyones liking and there may be some excellent films left off, but nothing on those lists can really be considered bad. I recommend taking the AFI's advice and see some of those older films, you might just find that many of them deserve to be on the list even if they are 50+ years old.

It claims to be a top 10 of American films, yet they put a British film in a top 10 list, Alien. I am not saying Alien isn’t an awesome movie, but if non American movies are in the running, then the major Disney bias in the animation list is an even bigger crock of dung. And the last straw was snubbing Nightmare Before Christmas, one of Disney / Touchstones' best releases ever.

So what would be your top 10 fantasy films, regardless of country of origin? Got to think about it before posting mine.

Legend, Labyrinth, Conan the Barbarian and Ladyhawke should be in any Fantasy film list!
Legend, yes. Conan, Sure. Ladyhawke... maybe.

The only 'best' list Labyrinth should be on is maybe Best Kids Movie with Puppets. I mean, really.

Well, then it's not really a 'best' list is it? It's more of a 'you should see these movies' list. And that's not a bad thing. Recommended movie lists are great. But not the same as 'Best'.

Alien is an American film. Movie origin countries are not defined by the nationality of their Directors (unless you think Hellboy and Blade II are Mexican films because that's Guillermo del Toro's home country), but of the production companies. In this case it was Brandywine company and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, both American companies.
