Spoilers Agatha All Along discussion

Everyone keeps trying to make them into the Young Avengers, but what about the Secret Warriors? There is definite overlap between the rosters.
It doesn’t matter what the team is called*, it’s just a matter of putting the good characters together to make a good movie or TV show.

*Although Kamala really wants to be an Avenger.

I had watched some of the original, back in the day.

The only problem I had with the new episodes was that they ran the plot like a runaway freight train. You couldn't breathe between the old comics plot beats as they thundered through them.
Yeah, doing effing Inferno in 1-2 episodes, and then Storm's whole character arc of being depowered in the equivalent of two episodes... now that's speedrunning. I get why they did them (they likely didn't know there'd be another season or two so they were cramming in as much as possible), but I think I'd rather not have had them done at all – at least the Storm stuff. The four-year depowered period gave her some amazing character development, but here it was all just... meh.

Note: one of the major members of the Young Avengers is Iron Lad - a young version of Kang that decides he doesn't want to grow up to be the villain. Kind of hard to introduce him without Kang...
Iron Lad got taken off the board pretty quick as I recall by older Kangs. I think his role can be just as well served by Ironheart.

I'll agree with that. I actually wonder if they were gunshy on this one, they were afraid it woudl't do well, and decided to cram in as much "plot" as they could to keep it interesting.

But yeah the show was really good, I hope they slow it down a bit in the season 2 and let it breathe more, no need to blow through the material if the quality remains that good.

My friend said she'd never seen a show rely so openly on reverse dramatic irony, where the characters have the knowledge that contextualizes everything but is held back from the viewers, and man does that encapsulate a lot of my issues with the show. The reveals at the end sure did answer some of my significant frustrations, but even so, my reactions were more "Oh, okay, sure, I guess." than finding them satisfying ones. And even so, that only addressed one facet of how inconsistent characterization had felt from scene to scene for Agatha, not even touching on the rest of the cast.

I actually did find the final episode very satisfying and well constructed in and of itself, but personally, very little of the rest of the show lived up to the standard it set. I think the plot (and resultant contrivances) that was demanded by the structure of "The Road" really hamstrung the potential strengths of this series.

But hey, women's choral groups at least got a piece that's gonna go real hard for some foreseeable future :p
