Oh, it wasn't terrible. Just sort of average Made For TV movie fare. not as good as I'd hoped. I sort of saw it as being along the lines of "The Gifted."I enjoyed it and would rather watch it again than almost any of the Fox X-Men movies. But I was also a huge New Mutants fan back when their comic book was still a new thing in the 80s.
Were they? Or were they just disliking that particular implementation? After all, having Thanos and the infinity stones as the single purpose behind the original storyline didn't put them off.Oh, how soon we forget. People were complaining that having that that single purpose was making it hard to get on board, and causing fatigue, because that big a commitment was more they wanted to make in a media franchise.
What, so anyone expressing concerns that they think should be addressed is to be dismissed unless they also embrace every other person's concerns and demand a product that is all things to all people? That is a pretty wild stance to take."Fix my criticisms, but don't worry about all the others," is kind of a non-starter.
OK. I mean, I don't really know why they didn't just stick to the plan and recast Kang - they've already shown us multiple times that not all variants look identical. I can only suppose that Feige and co felt that Majors had tainted the character and opted to abandon Kang and go off in another direction - hence why Loki S2 ended with the TVA being directed to focus on pruning Kangs wherever and whenever they are found.Note: one of the major members of the Young Avengers is Iron Lad - a young version of Kang that decides he doesn't want to grow up to be the villain. Kind of hard to introduce him without Kang...
that was the problem. The reason the original is so love is they actually took time to retell the comic book story arcs through the cartoon medium, so that characters actually became engaging and plots were coherent. The new one tried to stuff 3 or 4 different story arcs in some weird mash-up that did none of them justice.I had watched some of the original, back in the day.
The only problem I had with the new episodes was that they ran the plot like a runaway freight train. You couldn't breathe between the old comics plot beats as they thundered through them.
The actors were all well-cast. If I'd had to choose a single plot from New Mutants to use as a movie, I'd have chosen the Demon Bear too. The setting they chose was good. It had promise
The script and/or direction (and subsequent editing)... not up to the task.

I think Nostalgia helped and the animation and action was up to standard, but the storytelling was better in the 90s

And Kamala Khan was not part of the the Young Avengers in the comics, but it sure seems like she's going to be in the MCU. The roster isn't going to be the same.Note: one of the major members of the Young Avengers is Iron Lad - a young version of Kang that decides he doesn't want to grow up to be the villain.
