He had a wrist device to control the cameras, I believe, so maybe they were semi-autonomous rather than full-?
He can definitely override them but his explanation in a previous episode and seeing how much they move without his input suggests most of the time he isn't.
Even with current tech you can have the camera on a police helicopter follow a specific vehicle. I would guess that current larger drones would be capable of the same. Set and forget, then repurpose on the fly.
