Agh! 2nd Edition!

I will make a broken character so I will show the inherent weaknesses of 2nd Edition!

What? You need a broken character to do that? I thought in AD&D, "broken character" was redundant, lol.

If he's a **good** GM, it shouldn't matter what system you're using. Us "old folks" had to routinely fudge AD&D to do stuff -- heck, if it was outside of combat, we were on our own!

One random thought is to have someone co-GM. One person does the rpg plot, the other crunches it into the 3e mechanics. Sorta like helping out a new player to a new system.

**Of course** everyone plays non-human races in AD&D! (:

I don't know. Give me the Player's Option series and the Complete Ninja's handbook, and I'd be more than happy to play a single-classed Human "Cleric". If I can take the Shinobi Priest kit, even better.

Of course, even then, I try to get the DM to let me throw on Fighter, and sometimes Mage. I've never liked single class characters, even when I could mutate that class with Player's Option.

I'll stay out of the edition wars, but it seems a bit rude to convert a game already in progress without providing some sort of explanation. What do the other players think?

IMO, the game is completely in the DM's hands before the game begins, but once it starts it is community property of a sort. Rule 0 may extend to rules interpretations, but I'd at least want a most of the players to concur before switching rules sets.

Yes, you (and some others who have posted) are being psychotic. Don't follow the route of the "3etard" (geez, that term if funny) - if your DM (and players) are reasonably competent, then you should have fun regardless of the edition.

If you want to play in his game, do so. If you have better things to do, then don't play. Don't bother decrying his choice of game that he wants to run - simply find out why he wants to make the switch, and then decide for yourself if you want to play.

Exactly why someone would consciously switch from 3e to 2e I have no idea. It's gotta be nostalgia, since 3e is (imo) a far superior ruleset in every way.

As for making a broken character, play a Psionicist and use the Will and the Way suppliment from Dark Sun. It's been said many times but I'll reiterate here; 2e psionics are disgustingly overpowered.

Other than that, make a Skills & Powers Cleric. With 125 CP's to spend, you'll break the system in no time. You should definitely be a demihuman (elf for maximum twinkage) since there was no good reason to play a human in 2e unless you wanted to be a Paladin.
