Star Wars Ahsoka - SPOILERS

Legend
Sure there is. He wants the galaxy stable.
We don't actually know what he wants. As a representative of the Empire he wanted to support their rule, but as an independent operator his goals may he very different. Maybe carving out his own little corner of the galaxy and keeping it cut off from any future conflicts will suffice for him.
He isn't just going to sit it out, and he can't "be around" without having a significant impact on events. And Palpatine wants him dead. So if he aint dead he is still stuck in a different galaxy.
Since when does Palpatine want him dead?

These are both in the canon novels.

Some thoughts on Baylan's personal quest:

Objective: He want's to end the cycle of jedi-sith-jedi-sith victories.

Means 1) He wants a grey-side victory. So he is looking for the Bendu (voiced by Tom Baker in animation), the incarnation of the grey side. This is interesting because the Bindu has a bone to pick with Thrawn, and hence could be the wild card that is needed to defeat him.

Means 2) He wants to destroy the Force all together. This would made him a version of Kreia (KotOR2). It might be significant that Darth Sion was also a character from KotOR2. If he is partially successful, managing to damage the Force, it would explain "The Force Awakens" (I didn't know it had been asleep).
There is no grey side.

Indeed. Between white light and pitch black lie all the colours of the rainbow. Why stop at grey?
Not in Star Wars. There is the Light, and the Dark Side is its corruption, and that’s it. “Grey” just means Dark Side with delusions, or Light and the Dark hasn’t caught up to you yet.

Bendu (and Dave Filoni) say hi.

Nobody is ever completely light or dark. I'll take all the nuances I can get in my Star Wars.
