LOL! The complete lack of self-awareness is staggering. You're stealing other people's hard work, then you get pissy about other people stealing the stuff you stole? So surreal. "But I stole it fair and square. You can't steal it from me!"

So now Midjourney has a new new reference function. What it does is you upload the picture you want to use as a reference, then you use a particular command "--sref' to have MJ use it in your prompt. It usually gives weight to the reference more than your prompt, though that can be weighted.

If I ask for a cyborg samurai on her own, it'll focus on high detail and producing that particular image, with quite a lot of variation. If I ask for a cyborg samurai with a reference, it'll focus foremost on the reference style and might add more 'accents' to achieve the prompt.

Ex: above prompt with a reference image, a Frank Miller Batman artwork:

Note how it went for 'samurai' first and foremost, along with the style. The cyborg bit has been relegated to the glowing eyes - I'd have to tinker with weights and such to get it more robotic looking. But it has accurately replicated Frank Miller's style from a picture, rather than my putting his name in.

It works with any picture, except stuff that is censored, obviously, like porn and excessive gore. Photo, comic, webcomic, random doodle, anything.

The reference:

More exactly, they are reproaching Stability to have run a bot that overwhelmed their serving capacity in the process of getting generated image/prompt pairs to make human feedback comparisons between SD3 and MJ's aesthetic abilities. "Apparently" was, as is often the case, misleading, much like apparently the Earth is flat and the Sun rotates around it. Also, the journalist (sorry, SENIOR editor) make dubious claim of both parties confirming the "theft" without evidence of it, since both parties cooperate on friendly basis over the problem (which even the SENIOR editor aknowledges, showing that there is no drama), which has nothing to do with theft not is claimed to be related to theft by any of them, but (unwittingly) causing a server crash. His mention of "infiltrating" a database isn't mentionned by any other source, so I am inclined to say it's an "alternative fact", as they call it now. Or at least hyperbole, since after all by posting this post, I am certainly infiltrating Enworld's database by some definition of infiltrate.

But reality makes for less interesting and funny stories, of course. And probably gathers less clicks. But seriously, I'd really like the SENIOR editor to tell us how many AI image generation do we need to reach level 8 and be able to cast real spells?

so as an over night experiment I posted the following "Remember kids copy right law is good for the individual but bad for large companies." on reddit and it currently sits at 100 upvotes.
