I'm not sure, last year I attempted to give out 3d models for free, but nobody wanted it. Everybody was too enamored with ai pictures to notice or care.

I don't remember seeing anything about it, and I do have a 3D printer. On the other hand, I already support someone on patreon (Get more from mz4250 on Patreon) who does models for all the monsters.

There simply aren't that many people with 3D printers out there. But if you have something we can look at feel free to share. I may not use any because I'm already running out of storage space, but I'm always interested in alternatives.

So It Begins Helms Deep GIF

Hello fellow D&D enthusiasts, I the director of digital monetization, am here to assure you that these miniatures are just like real miniatures except we can and will revoke access to them at a time and place of our choosing. Please line up for your slop. Thank you.
Unless they offer a one time payment option, all assets exist locally, and local hosting is allowed this whole thing is a non starter for me. The reason I went with Fantasy Grounds as my virtual tabletop of choice is that even if the company became a smoldering crater tomorrow I could keep hosting and playing games.

Well, other than you lose all your books since you can’t access them unless you access the central server.

But you do keep your minis. That’s true.

I find the point that if all one does is verbally moralize about something, while not actually taking any personal actions, that one doesn’t actually really care all that much about the thing they are verbally moralizing about. At that point it’s hollow words and just a way to score social feel good points that lead to no change at all except maybe that person feeling a little better.

I’ll also note that necessities like food/water or unavoidable like participating in society are clearly different things than non-necessities and avoidables, like not buying iPhones.

Yes it’s a meme, but one I see way too often and it’s soo very very wrong. Its just an excuse for hypocrites.

All IMO of course.

The snark is just repetetive at this point.

If it is as good as it looks, development cost was not low. So I hope they find a good way to monetize it.

And to be fair: a lot of the things in the last few years were blown out of proportion. Some things were not great, some things were actually understandable.

What I still find funny is how Kobold Press is still one of their partners going forward despite them producing a competitive product (Tales of Valiant).
So all the black flag things was just marketing for themselves. Bad? No. But this is (sadly) how it works in this business. If you don't make money, things are not getting produced.
Well, it's "free to try", not free to start, which is already a departure from most of the VTTs on the market. I assume the free version is going to let you play with a curated selection of minis and use some of the premade themed maps, but I would imagine the buck stops there for a free trial. I would be surprised to find out it was a one-time purchase for someone to get the basic library and to be able to host games, but a subscription makes the most sense, as I don't think the mini maker or packages of specific premade miniatures is going to be enough to pay the bills if most of their server uptime is being used by people for free otherwise.

I have said this is a VTT, not an arcade. It can't work like the rest of videogame industry but we have to compare it with other VTTs.

I guess players will be more willing to pay if the content could be exported to other formats or titles.

I have suggested D&DBeyond could offer different type of services or products besided the VTT.

The VTT shouldn't be too linked to 5Ed because some players would like to use their own homemade ideas.

And this VTT has to offer different types of sceneries besides fantasy, for example no-Western cultures, sci-fi or urban zones.

* Would you buy virtual miniatures of Dark Sun setting? How would be virtual miniatures of LEGO or Playmobil figures? Or playing virtual version of miniature wargames, for example Iron Kingdoms (now by a new onwer), Necromunda by GW or Deadzone by Mantic.

A Beyond Sub is likely for some big features in the full release.

A Beyond Sub is likely for some big features in the full release.
If it's intrinsically tied to DDB that's not so bad because that product has some extra features due to being out on the market longer, so a twofer of a compendium and tabletop is a more reasonable bang for your buck.
