D&D 5E Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

Maybe tielfings and dragonborn are from Nethir Vale, they arrived to Oerth throught Sigil, the city of the doors. I wonder about WotC reseting Oerth alternate worlds ( Aerth, Yarth, Uerth and...Earth) even a shaking world event like the sundering and then those worlds would be in the same crystal sphere, or a twin crystal sphere.

* Would be interesting a new dark domain in the demiplane of the dread based in the "mirror universe" the evil twin of Oerth.

* Do you think an agreement between WotC and Gary Gygax Games would allow Aerth (Dangerous Journeys) to become canon in D&D?

To me it seems that introducing Sigil into GH is a much bigger change to the setting than introducing dragonborn! (Tieflings are already there - GH is rife with the offspring of fiends and mortals, like any good S&S setting!)

There is nothing at all in the folio or boxed set to suggest that there is a City of Doors that links GH to other "universes". The chief GH deity of Concordant Opposition is Boccob (who wields Discs of Concordant Opposition). Between Boccob and Istus I don't feel there is much cosmological space left for, nor need for, The Lady of Pain.

Whereas introducing a new humanoid race - well, those are a dime a dozen! Bullywugs, the other frog folk in GH Adventures (Grippli?), Tasloi, Mongrelmen, Ogrillons and Orogs, etc, etc. The roster of known humanoids of GH is always growing.

This reminded me that, at least canonically, GH also has "mongrelmen". Not my favourite Monster Manual entry, but seems relevant to the current discussion.

Yeah and I bet that although them looking like Thalidomid victims someone would play them for mechanical reasons and claim to be diverse for it. Sorry, if that is a bit not so PC, but heavens, it is hard enough to proper roleplay an elf as being something different than a human with pointy ears.

Of the non human humanoids, dwarves are quite easy to play because of their stereotypical traits.
Also a gnome or Halfling and also Halforc is not to hard to roleplay. But a reptile or a halfdemon?

For a dragonborn if played proper you should take some reptilian traits, e.g. warm up in the sun, constantly probing smells with their tongues etc. Their whole emotional backgrouind should be totally different than a mammal type.

For any half demon/devil/angel I do not know how to even start here. Maybe play them very very strict to at least one part of their supernatural progenitors homeplane alignment.

sound like a cool idea. Don’t wait for corporate approval. Just do it.

The dragoborn are practically reptomamals, humanoids with a harder skin. They see themself like the chosen champions for the glory, the elite among humanoids, alought too "normal" to be true dragons. Let's imagine your father was a NBA star and you want to be also professional basketball player but a lesion hasn't allowed you to play in the best league.

The tieflings are like the children of maffia gang members. Maybe they are like their ancestors, or ashamed they reject those totally. The feel themself like.... to give a softer example, like a Russian with a strong accent living among Northamericans for the Cold War. It isn't their fault but the rest of good citizens don't trust them too much.

You have to accept when GH returns, it will be with some retcons, this has to happen always with the new editions. And if it is not canon yet then it will be in the tabletops.

I would dare to say maybe we will see a new class as the dragon disciple (the prestige class), but with 20 levels.

* Has anybody any idea about a new children cartoon "my little dragonborn: honor is magic"?

If they were ever to publish a 5e GH setting book, I'd assume that they follow the guidelines of the PHB for the rarer races. Basically that they don't exist in the setting but if you want to include them in your version of GH they give some basic guidance on possible ways.

If Tolkien doesn't count as traditional fantasy but only "a huge influence on D&D's tropes" then I don't know what the hell traditional fantasy is.

i think people like hating Tolkien like some intellectual literary snobs like saying Shakespeare isn’t that good. They were both geniuses. When really people should be just admitting they are ready to try something different rather than putting down or insulting the works of Shakespeare, Tolkien, and others.

I would like to think that after playing in the same setting or type of setting for decades that people would want to try something new. Greyhawk again... i been playing that since the 80s. Forgotten realms again... I been playing that since the 90s. Great settings. Ready for something different. Same with Eberron, tired of it. Dark sun, eh still a little curious and wanting to explore it some for some silly reason.

I think that last paragraph may explain the differences on this issue.

I remember a little over 30 years ago I ran a GH-based thief campaign - a duergar and a deep gnome. Of course they didn't interact with the people of the Shield Lands or, when they ended up there, the City of Greyhawk, in the same way that the elf and humans in my next GH campaign did.

And their hijinks didn't consist of walking up to the town "quest giver" to see what their next mission was.

Yeah, the opposing view seems to be more about how adventures wouldn't work exactly as published, and might need to be tailored to a specific adventuring group. Which I feel like is step one before running anything. I know a lot of more "old-school-minded" folks think that the PCs are not special in any way, and they want their game to run pretty much as expected regardless of which PCs are present....and that's fine, but it limits things by its very nature.
