Amazon.com question...

I don't use Amazon.com a lot, maybe 5-6 times a year. Since they started offering it, I've always used their super saver shipping on stuff, which is free (basically just media mail).

However, the last month I've tried to order two things. And despite Amazon.com saying it's in stock, they are waiting a week to ship it.

Have they started deliberately delaying orders that have the free shipping in order to get people to pay for faster shipping? Or possibly sign up for Amazon.com prime? That's what it seems like to me...

Or has anyone else noticed this? (I figure a lot of people here must use them for rpg books)...

Amazon did that to me earlier this year, and after a few days, I decided I didn't need the books that bad.
I did place two orders in the past month or so, and got them relatively quickly, and am not sure if me cancelling the one from earlier this year had anything to do with that.

I haven't had any shipment problems with my orders from Amazon this year.

I can tell you from experience to never mail in payment for your order, because it is way too much of a headache.

Heh, yeah. After getting another credit card (I used to have a couple, but ran into problems with them :p ) last year, I swore I would only use it for Netflix. But the convience of using them for online stuff vs. money orders is just immense.

Anyway, I just don't get the deal with Amazon. Either they have the stuff in stock, or they don't. If they don't, they should say so (or rather, they should say they don't have any in stock). If not, then I don't see what could possibly take a week for them to ship - surely their warehouses aren't that big.

In this case, it sure seems like they have it, because it says "Hurry, only 4 left in stock"

This happened to me a few weeks ago. I ordered Mutants & Masterminds 2e, which they listed as in stock. It took about a week to ship, and then about 3 days to arrive.

Used to, I could order from Amazon using the free shipping and the item would ship within 48 hours. In fact, it was so fast that I could not see any reason to pay for shipping. This probably explains the delay now.

I don't mind. While I might get hopeful that something will arrive quickly with free shipping, I know not to count on it.

I'll relay my NWN2 situation which mirrors the others here.

I ordered it last Tuesday. It was listed as "in stock". I chose super saver shipping.

It's finally "shipping soon" as of today.

But, I don't expect speed with amazon, so it doesn't bother me. If I wanted it immediately, I'd have bought local.

While I have not one iota of proof (just the same experience as most people in this thread), I suspect this to be the case.

I think I agree. If you order using free shipping you get put at the bottom of the list. I've ordered things from them and it took over a week to ship. I remember the good old days when Amazon actually cared about it's costumers. You preorder something, it's at your door the day before release. If you had a problem they would give you a discount on your next order to make up for it.

Netflix has similar policy for frequent renters. If you rent more than a certain amount each week or month they put you at the bottom of the list for new or hot movies. At least they did. I think there was a guy that sued them over it.

I haven't looked at it in a while, but don't amazon's shipping policies specifically state that the free "Super Saver Shipping" takes an additional 3 to 5 days to ship?
